Festivities surrounding the 92nd annual Miss Mississippi kicked off yesterday with a parade in Vicksburg. 33 contestants from across the Magnolia State will take the stage beginning Wednesday, with the competition culminating in the final round Saturday at 8 pm.

Monday, the ACLU filed a lawsuit asking the federal court to prevent legislation banning DEI in public schools and universities in Mississippi from going into effect. The suit claims HB 1193 violates the First and Fourteenth Amendments by imposing the state government’s preferred views on matters of public concern, such as race, gender, and sexuality. At this time, there is no word on when a judge will take up this case.

20-year-old Onterrio McDougle was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, terrorist threats, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute while in possession of a firearm, and four counts of possession of a machine gun conversion device. McDougle was wanted for a social media post from March that showed him pointing a gun at a law enforcement officer.

A woman who was held against her will for three weeks has been rescued from a residence on Holly Bush Road in Rankin County. The female victim was reported missing in Smith County on May 12. Quincy Terrell Gilbert was located at an address on Lake Road in Pelahatchie. He's been charged with capital kidnapping and aggravated assault.
