There's plenty of action on tape this week for Mississippi college baseball fans. The Ole Miss Rebels will take on Mississippi State on Tuesday for a midweek matchup in Pearl. After dropping two out of three to South Carolina over the weekend, they left with a 28-12 overall record and 10-8 in the SEC. No. 23 Southern Miss took 2 out of 3 games in their Sun Belt series over Georgia State. The Golden Eagles are now 27-13 overall and 12-6 in the Sun Belt. They're set to play Tulane on Tuesday. It wasn't a great weekend for Mississippi State, which lost 2 out of 3 to Florida, falling to 24-16 overall and 6-12 in SEC play.

Jackson police are searching for a person of interest in connection with a fatal shooting on Saturday. According to investigators, Steckie Black was found dead from multiple gunshot wounds in the 100 block of Savanna Street around midnight. Plus, a Byram man was killed in a three-vehicle accident in Rankin County on Saturday. The accident occurred around 7:30 p.m. at Florence-Byram Road near Flinco Farms Road. Deputies found one of the vehicles submerged in a nearby pond and extricated the driver. Unfortunately, the driver--identified as Rico Funchess-- succumbed to their injuries.

A Mississippian has advanced to the top 20 of American Idol for the third time in as many years. Jamal Roberts, an elementary PE teacher from Meridian competing on season 23 of the singing show, won enough fan votes last week to join a growing list of people from the Magnolia State to make it this far in the competition.

Pope Francis passed away early Monday morning at the age of 88. Pope Francis was released from the hospital last month and was able to appear at Holy Week services last week.

A Coast woman is behind bars on a litany of charges, including the neglect of an infant. On Thursday, a traffic stop for reckless driving near Pineville Road and West Old Pass Road in Long Beach led to the arrest of Kathryn Robbins. While police investigated the offense, it was discovered that Robbins had allegedly left a 3-month-old child at her residence unattended.
