There's been an arrest in connection with a fatal ATV crash in Amite County. 10-year-old Jordan Hill was killed when he was hit by a truck on April 6 on Old 24 Compromise Road. Cody Rollinson, who was arrested on the day of the accident, was charged with possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle and felony leaving the scene of an accident. He's currently out on bond. Investigators are waiting on the results of a toxicology report, and additional charges are pending.

The death of a 6-year-old Saucier girl has been ruled a tragic accident. Gracelynn Vick's body was found dead inside a plastic barrel about 50 feet from her home on F Taylor Road around six o'clock on Sunday night. According to Sheriff Matt Haley, Gracelynn crawled into the barrel on her own and closed the lid from the inside, trapping herself inside. Haley says being in that barrel is similar to being locked in a hot car on a warm summer day.

A Mississippi man has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the murder of Denisha Knight in September of 2021. 31-year-old Montrell Taylor was convicted of capital murder after a four-day trial in Lauderdale County. Knight was shot and killed in her home on Sandflat Road in Meridian almost 4 years ago. She had ended the relationship two weeks prior to her death.

The Mississippi Insurance Department frequently receives questions about insurance rate increases and how to save money on auto insurance. Companies consider several factors when determining premiums and rates, including your driving record and claims history, where you live and keep your car, selected coverage limits and deductibles, annual mileage, and more. Insurance Commissioner Mike Chaney shared some tips on how to save on your car insurance.

The U.S. House has passed the SAVE Act, which requires proof of citizenship from Americans when registering to vote. However, the bill is facing an uphill battle in the Senate, where Democratic support is borderline nonexistent. In 2022, Governor Tate Reeves signed an election integrity bill mandating that the Secretary of State's office confirm that any new voter registrants are American citizens.

Vicksburg Mayor George Flaggs has declared a state of emergency due to rising water levels on the Mississippi River. The River level could reach as high as 48 feet this weekend. The flood stage for Vicksburg is set at 43 feet. On the coast, the Army Corps of Engineers is considering whether or not to open the Bonnet Carre Spillway. The Spillway is designed to divert excess river water into Lake Pontchartrain to prevent flooding. However, openings are a huge concern due to the effects of freshwater on marine life and water quality in the lake and the Mississippi Sound.
