Calling all Surfers with abandonment issues… this episode is for YOU. We see another few drops in the bucket of Tiffany’s vitriol as we talk about the California Dreams episode “Daddy’s Girl”. If you’re catching up, Tiffany’s mom abandoned her when she was young. Then, she came back and teased her with affection a life in New York City, only to be dropped again. So, it’s just been Tiff and her pops since then. Now Tiff’s dad finally finds a fellow wet biologist for romance but now their daddy/daughter time is massively interrupted! Will they strike some equilibrium in the Smith Aquarium Household? Meanwhile, Mark has a B-plot shoehorned in here where he basically invents Tinder and incepts the idea that Jake/Lorena and Tony/Sam are a bad couple. One of those is a thousand percent correct, by the way. 

James chimes in from middle America in Nebraska and Peat vehemently defends this episode, despite having some of the WORST guitar miming by Jake that we’ve seen yet. Tiff Tock… this time bomb of RAGE is about to explode. See you at Sharkey’s!!

We did it. We pulled it off. After narrowly escaping a real life Yeti last week, we have had to call in reinforcements to tackle this week’s episode. Our former co-host and amazing bezzie, Z (Zac Fable) pops back in to discuss this episode of California Dreams. And we are all LIVE in the same room!! But trouble strikes when local rumors of a yeti emerge, threatening to disrupt the construction of a new skiing slope. Yes, that’s actually the plot this week. 

Will our nepo baby princess ever learn the true meaning of hard work? Will Jake be flexible at all with his strict, heteronormative dogma? Will Tony learn to embrace mysterious, folkloric cryptids? And will Old Man Guffrey stop defecating all over the public trails? Peat remembers this episode fondly as a child and is just as disappointed with it as an adult. Hey there, Promise-Ring wearers. This week, we delve into the dark world of lust, envy and betrayal on California Dreams. Mark, whom everyone knows is the heartthrob of this show, puts his mitts all over Jake’s girl, Lorena, and the entire Dreams enterprise is threatened. The gang immediately thinks it’s an amazing idea to tell Jake, whom everyone knows is emotionally mature and level-headed, and he quits the band! 

Meanwhile, Tiffany is still bottling up her rage, Sly kisses Sam for reasons, Jake hates his mother, and we get the worst possible guitar miming this show has had to offer (so far). Why can’t we just hang out and be in a band with Tony exclusively? Do teenagers play Monopoly and watch Nick at Nite? Calling all Samantha Wu-Tang fans! In this breathtakingly continuity-dense episode of California Dreams, the boys at Surf Dudes HQ say goodbye to one of the best actresses on this show. Thank you, Nikki Cox for elevating the decor around here. Sly and Allison must face a tough reality when she decides to move to Chicago to teach blind people how to blind more better. There’s an inane subplot with some dress-up, a dream sequence and more than a few drops in the bucket of rage that is called Tiffany. 

We get a SECOND outside shot in California Dreams’ history and, wouldn’t you know it, it’s for another emotional breakup! There’s DIDDLY SQUAT for music and band stuff in this episode unfortunately. There is some cutlery talk that really gets Peat HYPE and James is clocking a lot of LPE’s (laughs per episode) the last few weeks. Following our in depth and eye-opening interview with Sir Zachary Throne, we jump in our Cessna plane and head up to Vancouver to talk about the short lived American band drama, “The Heights”. 

The single season series focused on a young band navigating their way through life, love and surviving in an anonymous city surrounded by very-obvious-sounding Canadians. Zachary Throne played the keyboardist and gave us some slick insight into the production, music writing, overnight success and subsequent cancellation of this forgotten cult-favorite. 

Peat and James are here to talk about the absurd amount of characters, instruments, sub-plots and 90210 connections this week. They also take a hard look at how different their life would have been had they had a dimly lit pool hall in their youths to hash out the trial and errors of adolescence. Hear how this northern sister show to California Dreams came to be and how, inexplicably, it lost the war despite having a #1 single under its belt.

Not to spoil anything but a lot of the cast of California Dreams didn’t actually sing or play instruments live on the show. I know… BUMMER. But we managed to track down some of the people responsible for those iconic pretending-to-be-teenager voices! We sat down with Zach Throne, multi-talented and faceted artist with a long rap sheet of credits. He dubbed in the singing voice of Mark on California Dreams as well as providing a lot of the studio guitar and bass in seasons 3-5. Yet, he has never met his alter ego, Aaron Jackson!

We talk about how he got the gig after his short but pivotal role on the Heights (California Dreams’ Canadian competition show!) and what it was like to have a #1 song at the same time. Zach has spent the years being a working musician, which is nothing to sneeze at, as well as an accomplished voice-over artist for shows like Spongebob and Avatar. He has toured with KISS, Aerosmith and an absurd amount of others. He’s currently in Corey Taylor’s band, Jerry Cantrell’s band and soon to be in the Surf Dudes band, whether he wants to or not.

The very niche-famous Adam from TUBI TREASURES joins us to lend his expertise at dissecting this episode. He has sat and reviewed some of the worst, and we mean the WORST film offerings. So, if anyone can fully appreciate some ‘delicately and respectfully handled’ mid 90’s disability-themed sitcom storylines, it’s this wartime pal.

The gang find themselves on yet another radio program (yes, AGAIN). But conveniently, this time, it has nothing to do with them actually being in a band. The failing school AM/FM radio is dying like a rusting tower in the wind and is given to Sly to revitalize. He gives shows to all his nepo-baby friends to hilarious results.
