One of the most difficult pills I've swallowed was the reality that my alonesness was, is, and always will be 100% my doing.

But once I could swallow that pill, BOOM! Great news! Because that means I am the one who can get rid of that pain and create the connection I long for!

Like life, planning a surf session 🏄🏻‍♂️ to hit the window just right can be tricky...

Some guys have an entire pre-surf ritual they go through from checking the surf,

to changing into their wetsuit in a particular manner, to waxing their board in a special way,

to even warm-up stretches and prayer and even yoga.

Other guys have to arrive on scene and habitually drop a deuce first 😂

Some guys arrive at my place and need coffee first.

I am one to have everything ready...just jump in the car, don my wetsuit, and jump in the water.

All of these variants can lead to confusion as a frustration when trying to perfectly time the surf session to hit a particular window of opportunity

Between work, breakfast, morning routines, family plans, tides, and even wind factor.

And ultimately the frustration that can happen leads to an underlying blame or passive aggressiveness that leaves me on edge and out of integrity.

And as our surf session stalled the other day bleeding into the rest of my plans, I once again found myself inside the perfect opportunity to start blaming others underneath the surface of a "nice face."...

One of the ‼️ GREATEST LIES ‼️ that we tell ourselves that DESTROY the...

How was I supposed to know that

❗️That Luci tricked me and lied to me

❗️That my body would become disabled

❗️That my kids would do that

❗️That this deal would fall through.

I have experienced friends and family and of course myself live life while child abuse, sexual abuse, spousal abuse, affairs, alcoholism, drug addiction, financial thievery, and even possible rape and murder went on right underneath the surface of our noses.

But instead of taking responsibility for for being unaware, we blame others in our hearts, judge them,

And then continue to live the rest of our lives with guilt and shame with our tails tucked between our legs...

LIFE CAN GET SO BUSY!

So chaotic.

So FUN!

So hectic.

It can be hard to listen to or even HEAR our hearts.

Or the hearts of others

Or even the heart of God.

We must get strategic with the liminal space in between the waves.

In fact, sometimes we may even have to create MORE space to get and grow the connection we want.

Some of the most successful businessmen, athletes, and surfers

Have ultimately found themselves alone in a pit of pain

Because they neglected to create or take advantage of liminal space.

I LIED TO MYSELF for far too long...

Attempting to be strong for my family and cover up the pain inside,

I thought it made me a better man, husband, and father.

But I only bled all over my family as my fire died more and more every day

And my family was encouraged to lie to themselves and me just the same.

We all grew more isolated and disconnected by the day...

By the YEAR!

THE ONLY WAY to find the fire inside your heart,

To unleash the passion and raw DESIRE you crave in your 10-yr+ marriage,

To establish the trust and connection you are hunting for with your children,

And to radiate absolute certainty from within

Is to get BRUTALLY CUSSING HONEST WITH YOURSELF FIRST

And then EXPOSE everything you discover deep down inside the darkness of your soul.

Only THEN will your love and light SHINE bright!

Yesterday someone asked me, "How did you learn to surf? Did someone teach or show you? Or did you go to a...."

And BAM!...I cut him off with 1000% certainty in my voice!

I learned to surf by getting my butt in the ocean over and over and over and over...

And again and again...

Falling and failing over and over as I simply kept in showing up again and again.

And to this day, in my experience that is the only way ANYONE learns to surf.

You must be CONSISTENT!

Diets fail because you're not consistent.

Working out doesn't work and "isn't your thang" because you're NOT CONSISTENT!

Meditation doesn't work for you because you're not consistent!

You haven't built the clarity and trust inside your marriage and family because you're NOT CONSISTENT!

If you want to master connection across your life, you MUST MASTER THE GAME OF CONSISTENCY!

You must because KING OF CONSISTENCY!

Only inside the game of consistency will you find the integrity and the power to cultivate and experience the passion and connection you're hunting for.

Everything we do has a profound impact on those around us.

The problem is that we are not always 100% proud of this impact.

So we deny it. First to ourselves, then others.

We turn a blind eye and distract ourselves with responsibilities.

All while our hearts know deep inside that something is not ok about it.

We give great reasons and continue on with our "responsibilities" ...

While we leak passion and remain disconnected while neglecting our full actual responsibility.

And the guilt and shame builds and eats away at us.

But WHAT IF you were aware of the FULL IMPACT of your actions?

The good, the bad, the great, the downright ugly?

What if you OWNED your impact?

You're not fooling anyone...

Not your wife...

Not your kids...

NOT EVEN YOURSELF!

In order to take relationships to the next level and build deeper connection, WE MUST COLLIDE ☄️!

It's the only way.

But we were taught and trained to avoid collision.

We were lead to avoid uncomfortable situations and difficult conversations.

And so we beat around the bush, sweep our deepest feelings (or all our feelings) under the rug,

And continue to hide our thoughts and deepest beliefs from one another.

But it's ok, we justify to ourselves...

If I can just over-deliver on my responsibilities, show extra love and affection, take care of these dishes, lose a few pounds, make a little extra money, and spend some more quality time with my kids....

Everything will be alright, everyone will be happy enough to keep all of our deepest feelings safely and ACCEPTABLY hidden away.

And so deeper connection is never reached...

While much time is even spent with each other, the hearts are distant, lonely, and left wanting.

The family looks great on the outside while all the "boxes" are checked...

While we remain frustrated, stuck, even APATHETIC about the fact that the passion and the intimacy and the moment to moment anticipation and excitement is not what it used to be.

Well, I'm excited to break it to you – COLLISION is your only way forward! 😄

Most of us were taught and encouraged to conform socially to what is proper or appropriate.

And while this often served us well in school or the military or in not getting our butts kicked by our parents,

The passion and FIRE and even just plain silliness had to be suppressed.

It's one of the big reasons why I loved smoking and drinking when I was a teenager.

I could just be me, silly, free, stupid, fun!

Most of us are hunting for space to be free, to be ourselves.

Hunting for the right environment like the club or the ocean and hunting for the right type of friends that have similar beliefs in life so they won't judge us.

But what if instead of hunting for this space, you simply CREATED IT!

You have the power to set the frame and create the environment of freedom and fun and connection you're hunting for.

It's time to SET YOUR TABLE and stop just eating the breadcrumbs from the floor!
