Each and every one of us wants so badly the best for others.
We all have this place deep in our hearts where we long so badly to create value and support others
So that they can experience and greater and richer life.
I can get frustrated and sad watching others experiencing this tough life
Wishing that there was something I can do
And inside this place of hoping and wishing the best for them
I can blame them or God or other people/circumstances in their lives which seem to hold them back from what I want for them.
Which leads to a loss of passion and connection in both myself and my relationships.
The reality is that there is ALWAYS something I can do to create value for and support them.
Whether it's my wife, my children, my friends, family, strangers, etc...
There ALWAYS something I can do...

When life isn't perfect...when life is simply LIFE...
And our plans get interrupted...
I can immediately go to a place of panic.
Not knowing what to do.
Which way to turn.
What I have time for.
What I DON'T have time for.
What I'm committed to.
And in this place of uncertainty
I will find myself concerned, worried, stressed
I can get on edge
And feel I have lost control.
This inevitably leads to me showing up disconnected with people, stuck in my head, and robbed of passion.
And I just can't afford to live this way!

There's commitments that imprison 🚧 and then there's commitments that SET YOUR HEART FREE 🔥!
Commitments that imprison will ALWAYS create frustration and resentment.
Have you committed to a diet and after a couple months felt TRAPPED?
Or maybe you're in a committed relationship and when it gets tough and even seems IMPOSSIBLE, you feel stuck and imprisoned.
I have made so many stands, promises, and commitments for myself and others

July 09, 2019 Surfing Lesson 209: Navigating the Night!
Surfing in the head high + waves can be challenging at night if not downright scary.
And like so, our dark feelings of anger, rage, blame, guilt, shame, betrayal, + can be challenging if not downright TERRIFYING.
So we avoid the dark.
We avoid the terror.
We only surf daylight where it's as dangerous, but at least at can see.
And we only express (or at least try to) our "good" feelings of that are JUST as dangerous.
But the problem is that the only way to fill our cups so that they overflow onto others...
The only way to fully love and accept ourselves so that we are actually capable of loving and accepting others...
The only way to OWN THE LIGHT AND LOVE...
Is to go into the night, face the dark, and OWN THE DARK.
When we can accept and own our hatred and blame and shame,
Only then are we actually free to love others and accept them with a full, overflowing cup of love of them, themselves, as they are, full dark and full light...full human beings.
If you want to be the light, you must OWN the dark instead of burying it and sweeping it under the rug.
If you own your pain, you run the game!

July 08, 2019 Surfing Lesson 208: Never Too Late
It took an entire TWO YEARS 🚨 of crippling disability for me to discover the impact I had on my kids!
Couch ridden on and off and stuck inside a literal fantasyland of video games.
And then I woke up and came alive.
And when that happened and I saw how I was able to overcome so much of my disability
I would look back with guilt and shame about not pulling it off sooner.
Even worse, I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW that I had that guilt and shame!
IT'S NEVER TOO LATE!
The only decision you must make is do you choose to GO?
Are you committed?
That's it. And as long as you keep CHOOSING again and again to show up, you will get what you're committed to.
You are your commitment.

ONLY WHEN THE PAIN IS BIG ENOUGH...
And ONLY then, will we experience true transformation.
People usually don't know it, but that's what they're seeking as they show up to great "transformational" events.
Only when the pain (emotional) become so great enough that we see NO OTHER OPTION but to shift...
To see differently...
To change and transform...
Will we not be able to help ourselves but to show up completely different.
Only when the pain of my physical disability was big enough...
Only when the pain of feeling so alone and disconnected from God was big enough...
Only when the pain of feeling like such a failure as a man, husband, and father was big enough...
Only when the pain of the consequences from not producing enough income was big enough...
I could go on and on, and I will a bit more inside this episode.
But make no mistake...
We are emotionally driven human beings.
Only when the passion is big enough will areas inside our lives and even ultimately our entire lives be filled with DRIVE, DESIRE, and PASSION.
Passion comes from pain. Period.
In fact, the word "passion" literally means "to suffer."
You've heard of the passion of Christ.
THAT'S DRIVE!
The question is are YOU getting real and raw with YOUR pain.
