After the parables, Mark records for us miracles that demonstrate the unique authority of Christ. Jesus and his disciples are on the Sea of Galilee. A massive storm hits, but so does fear. Jesus is awoken from his sleep to save his people. He tells the wind and waves to be quiet and they listen. Jesus does what only God can do.

In the sixth and final disputation, Yahweh indicates that the people of Israel find it useless to worship Him. They view worship as a way to find favor from God in order for material gain. But God listens and knows the wicked ways of the people. Yahweh also listens and knows the faith of those who fear him. The Day of the LORD will be a day of terror for the wicked, but a day of rejoicing for the righteous.

The people of Israel were robbing the unchanging, covenant LORD by not giving a tenth of everything they had. They viewed the tough time as an excuse to skimp out before the LORD God. Their action was a sign of ungratefulness before a God who gives abundantly. While there is no specific number in the New Covenant, Christians must be generous by giving back to God what is already His.

Jesus compares the Kingdom of God to both the scattered seed and the mustard seed. The former refers to the growth of the kingdom, while the latter has to do with the contrast of the kingdom. There are times when it seems like the Kingdom of God may not be advancing, but Christians must remember that God grows it. And even though it seems small, the Kingdom will have worldwide dominion where many undeserving sinners will be saved.

When David cries out to Yahweh in a time of distress, he appeals to God's character and God's works. Before giving his plight, David starts by relying on God's character. God is righteous, faithful, and the covenant LORD. If there is anywhere a Christian can turn in times of distress, it is to their righteous God who cares for them.

In the parable of the lampstand and the parable of measure, Jesus indicates that the light of the Kingdom will be revealed to many. Even though Jesus speaks in parables for those outside, He highlights that this does not mean only a few are saved. The light of the kingdom will expand to the ends of the earth with many being given eyes to see and ears to hear.

Those who know Christ ought to walk as he did by keeping his commandments. These are old commandments, but they are new as they are viewed in light of Jesus Christ. Those who know Christ ought to love their brother. Those who hate their brother are blind and are in darkness. Those who love have the light of Christ shining in them.

While alone with Jesus, his disciples asked him the meaning and purpose of parables. The parables are used to indicate insiders and outsiders. Then Jesus explains the meaning of the parable of the sower, which has to do with the reception of the Word of God. There are many obstacles to receiving the word of God, which is why it requires a divine work.

The Baptist divines show that the Moral Law, which is comprehended in the Ten Commandments, is still abiding for believers and unbelievers. Christ first coming doesn't destroy the Ten Commandments, but fulfills and affirms them. The Moral Law gives us a clear indication of how believers ought to live. It is also used to teach us what sin is and drive us to Christ.

In Acts 4-1-31, Peter and John are on trial because of the preaching that Jesus has been raised. After they are questioned, Peter defends the truth with boldness drawing from the Old Testament to show that Jesus is the cornerstone that the Sanhedrin rejected. The two apostles are released with a warning and return to their companions where they pray for boldness in the face of persecution.
