In the major teaching section of his gospel, Mark gives us the theological reasoning behind the various responses to who Jesus is. Jesus speaks in parables in order to show forth the faithful and expose the unbelieving. Jesus starts by speaking to the crowd with the enigmatic parable of the sower. The Kingdom of God set forth in parables is different from the kingdom of man and it requires divine illumination to understand the meaning of the it.

The Baptist divines highlight the eternal foundation and the abiding character of the Law of God. God gave a law of universal obedience that was written on the heart of mankind at creation. This law is known as the moral law and it is summarized in the Ten Commandments- it is the moral law that still abides today. These laws were fleshed out in the ceremonial laws and the judicial laws for Israel as a theocratic nation. The ceremonial laws were fulfilled in Christ and the judicial laws expired with their general equity being of moral use.

God's delayed deliverance and judgment causes Israel to assume that He delights in wickedness. But Israel, who had God's Law, should've known better. Yahweh indicts them by indicating that there will be a day of judgment and it will include judgment upon the wicked ones in Israel. Yahweh's messenger will prepare the way for Yahweh who will come and purge the wickedness from His people.

The Kingdom of God has a radically different view concerning the family. Allegiance to Christ must be greater than allegiance to earthly families. Anyone who believes in Jesus will be brought into the family of faith.

As the Jerusalem church grew, the need also grew. The apostles called the church to chose seven men to take care of the tables, while they focused on the Word and prayer. These seven men, who included Stephen and Philip, were Greek-speakers who would be key figures in the expansion of the kingdom into Judea and Samaria. Growth was not just internal, but external as well.

Paul directs Timothy concerning proper conduct and government in the house of God, which is the church. He sets forth the qualifications for both elders and deacons. Elders hold the ruling and teaching office, while deacons hold the serving office focusing on the temporal needs of the church. All members ought to serve Christ's church, but deacons occupy a specific role. These men must be qualified men as they assist in the government of Christ's church.

Assurance, which is not part of the essence of faith, is something that Christians may wait long in this life before they partake of it. There are many reasons for lack of assurance including negligence, sin, temptation, and God withdrawing the light of his countenance. But the primary grounds for assurance is found in the blood and righteousness of Jesus Christ. For every one look to self, a struggling believer should take ten looks to Christ.

The beauty of the gospel is that there is forgiveness of sins, but forgiveness is found only in Jesus Christ the LORD. Without him, sinners will die in their trespasses and sins. The unforgivable sin has to do with one's view of the LORD Jesus Christ and, in hostility, attributing the power of Christ to an unclean spirit. The power of Jesus evidences that he is the Messiah and that he is God.
