Beverly Downing is the Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Coppin State University since December 23. 2015. She brings to the Coppin over twenty years of experiences as a seasoned higher education leader, innovative and creative thinker, problem solver, and communicator. Downing led numerous institutions to successful enrollment growth, retention improvement, and graduation gains. As an effective grant writer, she has acquired over 20 million dollars in foundation, state, and federal grants. Among her successes are the establishment of a state-of-the-art Community Health and Wellness Program (St. Augustine’s College, Raleigh, NC). The center served over 6,000 families and children providing college readiness, life skills, sports skills, and preventive health awareness and instructions. She also designed and launched a highly successful online Masters of Special Education Program (Kentucky State University, Frankfort, KY). Downing has led over two dozen successful accreditation and compliance reviews. Likewise, she has provided technical assistance to numerous other University's that have resulted in successful accreditation and compliance efforts. She has received honors for her work leading to the branding of a Kaplan University campus in Fort Worth, TX. Under her leadership other awards such as the Exemplary Practice Awards from the American Association of Colleges of Teacher Education (AACTE) and a service award from the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).
