Man Rise Up Radio welcomes Alvin S. Woods who is a Detroit area businessman, activist, author, and former fifteen-year drug dealer.  He has been published and featured in a number of newspaper articles including the Michigan Chronicle and the Detroit News/Free Press and is author of Guns, Drugs, Gangs, and Anger,”  a memoir concerning African Americans and the problems surrounding gun violence and drug sales and use in the African American community. 

Mr. Woods has also held the position of director & non-violence committee chairman for the former Greater Purpose for Detroit (GP4D), a Detroit based coalition responsible for the empowering of community youth.  He has also held a position on the programming board of First Impressions Mentoring Group, a coalition, which teaches job acquiring and entrepreneurial skills.

A ‘street professor’, Baba Al Woods, brings experiences of drugs, guns, business, life, and science to the table of life.  From the time of watching his father shot to death at age 7, and including the experiences of being nearly shot to death himself in an attempted dope house robbery, he tells the truths behind guns, selling drugs, getting jobs, and making money in other ways than those that are stealing the lives of the young brother before he reaches maturity.  Still on a mission to complete God’s task, Brother Woods’ task is simply to save the young man before his life is ruined, before he is labeled a criminal, before he dies or loses his life to a world of incarceration.
