Dr. Chiang is a gastroenterologist and advanced endoscopist fellow in Philadelphia. Dr. Chiang attended undergrad at Duke University, then went on to complete his medical training at Columbia University for both medical school and his internal medicine residency, he then did a gastroenterology and bariatric endoscopy fellowship at Harvard Medical School at Brigham and Women’s hospital in Boston. Austin is a pioneer in the field of Gastroenterology, has been termed a social media expert for the field of GI, has been a resident member of the ABC News Medical Unit in NYC, and was named one of the top 200 leaders in Innovation in Gastroenterology in 2016. Austin has an extensive background in research, clinical medicine, leadership and is also a proficient violinist. In this interview, we dive deep discussing Austin’s path to medicine, why he chose GI, the correlation between music and medicine, what it was like not knowing what specialty he wanted to do while in Residency, advice for anyone who wants to be active on social media from a medical perspective, why you should get involved in national medical specialty organizations, and the value of humility and connecting with patients.
