The Mississippi Legislature is required to redraw its House and Senate district maps to create more Black-majority districts. This comes after a federal court ruled in 2024 that the existing districts do not allow Black voters equal participation in the political process.

Alabama Governor Kay Ivey commuted the death sentence of Robin "Rocky" Myers to life in prison without parole, saying there are considerable questions about his guilt.
