Surfing, from the outside, is seen as one of the most eco-conscious sports on the planet. Most surfers adhere to a minimalist approach, needing nothing more than a surfboard, a wetsuit, and some wax. But the creation of those surfboards often involve shaping foam cores with fiberglass completing the board. Martijn Stiphout and David Dennis, co-founders of Ventana Surfboards & Supplies, bonded over a love for surfing and the desire to improve the process. Together, they produce high end, classically made, hollow wooden surfboards. However, what makes them truly unique is that they are constructed using waste products. The boards don't just ride well, they are works of art that tell meaningful stories.
