Welcome back to the Sutta Meditation Series Podcast.
This is the most recent talk on Anger from a Youth perspective. It's a shorter and simplified talk.
The intention is to cultivate wisdom - so that we do not create the conditions for anger to arise, and if anger has arisen that we make an effort to abandon any of the mental stains associated with anger.
Suttas that are covered directly or indirectly in this session:
To read the Āghātavatthu Sutta (AN 10.79) - https://suttacentral.net/an10.79/en/sujato

Welcome back to the Sutta Meditation Series Podcast.
Following on from the last session looking at "Why associating with good people (sappurisa) is so important on the Noble Eightfold Path", we take this one step further to examine "Developing the Buddha's qualities of a good person".
We are particularly interested in looking at how we may self-sabotage our progress on the Path, and to investigate qualities that we consciously or unconsciously continue to practice that may be unwholesome, rather than wholesome. This is a strong encouragement to deepen the practice and really put effort to progress on the Noble Eightfold Path.
This is part of our examination of the Avijjā Sutta (AN 10.61). Instead of ignorance, we want to cultivate and develop to fulfillment True Knowledge and Liberation (vijjāvimutti). The intention is to look at a few different parts of this insight pathway (which has all the main teachings of the Buddha to develop the Noble Eightfold Path and realise Nibbana) before pulling it all together to explain how to meditate on the full insight pathway.

We look at the first part of the insight pathway for the way out or passing away (atthangama) of Ignorance (avijjā), which is associating with good people. This is from the Avijjā Sutta (AN 10.61). Instead of ignorance, we want to cultivate and develop to fulfillment True Knowledge and Liberation (vijjāvimutti).

Welcome to the Sutta Meditation Series Podcast.
In this session we study the insight pathways taught by the Buddha in the Avijjā Sutta (AN 10.61) and how to contemplate or meditate on them.
The first is the one that leads to the arising (samudaya) of Ignorance and the second is the passing away (atthaṅgama) or way out of Ignorance.
The session has been split into two parts:

Welcome back to the Sutta Meditation Series Podcast.
This is a GUIDED MEDITATION on the following contemplation:
"If it is impermanent (anicca), painful or suffering (dukkha), and subject to change (vipariṇāma), is it worth taking as me and mine?"
**We examined this as part of looking into the contemplation of the five aggregates subject to clinging as 11 characteristics in the Sīlavanta Sutta (SN 22.122).
This is a very powerful contemplation that carefully directs the mind towards the right view (yoniso manasikāra), using the primary characteristics the Buddha would normally teach and then follow up with questions.
If you are new to this type of contemplation, there may be some resistance that arises during this guided meditation. If you can, do try to persist. If we ever want to get out this predicament (it can be likened to a constructed prison,) we can't gently break out or go softly-softly, there needs to be some force and conviction to overcome all the barriers and traps.

A few words of encouragement for walking the Noble Eightfold Path and lifting our minds away from unwholesome (akusala) states towards wholesome (kusala) states during these challenging times.
Sending kind thoughts out to the world.

This session elaborates on how to meditate on the Sīlavanta Sutta (SN 22.122) with its deeply penetrative teaching on WHAT THINGS SHOULD BE WISELY CONTEMPLATED (i.e. the things we should be carefully directing our mind towards) TO ENSURE WE ACTIVATE THE NOBLE EIGHTFOLD PATH (leading with Right View) and REALISE THE FRUIT OF THE PATH.

This is ONLY the APPLICATION OF YONISO MANASIKARA APPLYING THE SIMILES FOR THE FIVE AGGREGATES from the Vesak Poya Dhamma Session, conducted via zoom on 26 May 2021.
**Please note - each contemplation is a gradual and sequential development of yoniso manasikara, therefore you may wish to do the meditations or contemplations in sequence.
For the full 3.5hr session (including contemplations) you can listen to episode 103 WHY YONISO MANASIKARA IS ESSENTIAL TO THE NOBLE EIGHTFOLD PATH (Vesak Poya FULL Dhamma Session)
In this segment from the Vesak Poya Dhamma Session, we briefly examine Buddha's teachings on USING FIVE DIFFERENCE SIMILES TO SEE THROUGH THE FIVE AGGREGATES - see them as VOID, HOLLOW, EMPTY, WORTHLESS, NO SUBSTANCE. It's useful to do this meditation (although we didn't during the Dhamma session) as it reinforces the earlier meditations on the five aggregates, and takes it further to enable you to clearly see in your meditation these aggregates as empty (suññato) and not worth taking as me and mine (anattato).
