South Carolina is one of the oldest states within the Southern United States. Its steeped in history, especially from the American Revolutionary War, that lasted from 1775 to 1783. If you didn't know, about a third of the action of the war took place in South Carolina, more than any other state at the time. As Inhabitants of the state, endured being invaded constantly by British forces. One man was determined to help win the war and reclaim South Carolina. He is widely considered a hero of the American Revolution, who not only fought against tremendous odds, but was indispensable in securing America's freedom. That man was Francis Marion, The Swamp Fox, a nickname given to him by the British for his elusive tactics. The legend of the Swamp Fox has gone on to engulf the minds behind politics, state monuments, books, television, and film. Including the inspiration behind one of the best Hollywood films of the early 2000s.
