We are your hosts, Jim wood and Jeff Wood, and Jim, really, really excited to dive into today’s topic. We’re going to be talking about five easy things that your beginning swimmer can do in order to learn how to swim faster.

And a lot of the questions that we’re getting. From our listeners or from parents who are utilizing the SwimAble platform. Our questions like this. How do I speed up the process and get my child to learn how to swim faster? So I’m super excited to dive into today’s episode. The reality here is that in today’s world, we are all too happy to pay a bit more in exchange for ne.

To do a bit less. You see, we’d rather pay extra to have someone else take care of things for us. And it seems like this is the case right now in the marketplace. Swimming lessons have been no different. That is really the goal of what we’re looking to change. With the SwimAble platform. And so I’m really Jim really excited to dive into this episode today.

Me too, man, this one like all of them are a long time coming since like been years of thinking about how kids learn to swim and realizing that there’s some ways to do things better. And when we get all these questions from parents, a lot of it’s like, How do I help my kid learn to swim faster outside of their swimming lessons?

You know, I’m glad parents are thinking about it because for most kids, they’re learning to swim process starts and stops at swimming lessons. So parents have really three things to do with their kids are enrolled in swimming lessons. Most of the time some parents go above and beyond, but it goes like this sign up for the swimming lessons and pay for those swimming lessons.

Drive your kid to the program. Sit back and relax and watch. That’s how most kids learn how to swim. They’re not getting any help outside. Of swimming lessons and you know, as in most things in life, we pay for that what’s that convenience that the ability to, to pass off to somebody else and have them do something for us and with swimming lessons, you really pay for that convenience in a number of ways.

This episode is extremely impactful because we’re going to be diving in today and answering and unpacking the question, which is what do we have to do to keep our three-year-old safe in and around the water.

And as we get into this episode, only a couple of things out upfront to make sure that our audience knows. What we’re really clear on number one, we’re going to talk about things that might sound a little bit controversial relative to what maybe other swim schools or other swimming information or their swimming programs how they talk about it.

And so we want to lay out the reality that number one, we are. Anti swimming lessons, the information we’re going to get into Mike sound like that initially. But the idea here is that we want to set you guys up as parents with the right information so that you can keep your kids completely safe or as safe as possible.

And we think in order to do that, we have to start to actually talk about the data and the information and some of the studies that a lot of swim schools. Present that push parents towards their swimming lessons. All right. We are super excited to dive into this episode today. We got part two of can, a two year old learned to swim and Jim and Jeff will be discussing the question of how long it exactly takes a two year old to learn to swim.

Also, in this episode, Jeff and Jim give some spicy takes on ISR that’s infant survival rescue swimming lessons. You do not want to miss it. Let’s jump in. Here are Jeff and Jim Wood .The majority of the population two year olds really can’t learn how to swim. Let’s then go into, okay. Let’s say start at the age of two.

And we were at push this out in a consistent manner, meaning they’re involved in swimming lessons consistently, and that is the means of teaching the kids, how to swim. How long does it take Hey,

before I tell you what I think from experience, let’s go back to Google. Okay. Cause this is what parents are finding.

And so here we go. The first thing I’m going to share is just one of the, one of the initial Google results that’s going to pop up. Actually, I think it’s number one. And I already did this this morning preparing, so here we go. This is the, this is the number one answer. Okay, here we go. And it starts by saying this.

We are assuming children attend weekly 30 minute polarize at swim lessons all year round. So that right there is already doing a bunch of things that most parents are not doing. Okay. Most parents aren’t going all year round. They’re just not, they’re very seasonal. They think about swimming lessons right before the summer and they ended in the fall.

That’s the majority that’s way over 50%. Okay. Then they’re assuming weekly, 30 minute private swimming lessons. Okay. Look at private swimming lessons are very expensive. Most parents are not affording that right now. The most popular lessons are group lessons with three to four kids per class. And then there are group lessons with six to eight kids per class.

Okay. They stay in here, group lessons. The process of learning is learn to swim, so those are the caveats I’m putting around what they say. Okay. And then we’re going to talk about what research says, and then what we say, this is from teacher child to swim.com. Okay. It’s the first Google result. That’s going to pop up for you.

It says children who start swimming lessons between the ages of 18 months and three years. That

I’m really excited to talk about this topic. It’s a very confusing topic for parents and you know, what we’ve noticed in, in owning a swim school for as long as we have is that more and more parents every year. Are trying to get their two year olds into swimming lessons and they have some ideas, some goals about what they want to get out of that.

And so I think it’s very fitting that we have this conversation. Now I know where our midway through the summer. And so some parents may already be in swimming lessons, some may not yet, but I think this information is going to help any parent that has a two year old at home. So I’m really excited. And like Jeff said, just to reiterate, we’re going to be answering the three.

Can a two year old learn to swim. How long will it take a two year old to learn to swim? And then what do you have to do as a parent to keep them safe? And Jeff said, we’ve got to put some definitions on things. We’ve got to build some boundaries, right? So every parent, every coach even has different

Hey Swim Discovery family. Welcome to the podcast designed to equip parents around the world to help their children discover how to swim. And welcome to part two of at what age, how long does it take for kids to learn to swim? If you haven’t already go back and listen to part one where Jim and Jeff breakdown a study from the Australian journal of science and medicine in sport to show us exactly at what age and how many swimming lessons it takes for each age to learn front crawl swimming.

How many swimming lessons do you need a two years old and how many swimming lessons do you need at eight years old for each child be able to learn freestyle. If you’re joining us again, here’s a little recap from that conversation. It is July and that means we are about halfway through the swim season and about halfway through the amount, the traditional Lincoln, the time that parents are involved in organized swimming lessons.

And so if you are listening to this podcast and your child is involved in swimming lessons, you got to ask the question. Can your child swim yet because of those swimming lessons. And that really correlates to the second question, which probably I should have asked first, but nonetheless, is, is your child safe yet when they are swimming in your pool or your lake or going to any body of water, are they safe yet?

You know, I don’t think most parents get into swimming lessons. With an idea of what to expect, or even at, with the endpoint in mind of what is SAFER. Okay. So they sign up, they go, oh my gosh, my kid can’t swim and they’re not safe. I need to make them safer ASAP, which means I need to teach them how to swim.

And what this study found  is age seems to be a driving factor for the rate of progression. Meaning the more developed a child is typically on average, not in all cases, but on average, They will learn quicker and I’ll go one step further, most likely retain that information better. And now let’s jump back into part two of at what age and how long does it take for kids to learn to swim with Jim and Jeff Wood.

Right now swim schools, pressure parents from the age of six months saying. Some start at four months, four months, four months. I’m sorry. I’m going to get a little animated here because I it’s just, I can’t believe it. And buyer beware to parents

It is midway through the Swimming Lesson season and you have to ask the question: can your child swim yet & are they safe swimming in the pool yet? Most parents believe in order to keep their children safe they need to have them in swimming lessons. This is a vast understatement. It is not that cut and dry.

No, I can’t believe it. It’s like time is flying, right? That’s crazy.

I know it is crazy. We have got a really epic episode for everyone tuning in.

We have two really important questions at this point in the year that we like to ask question, number one, can your child swim yet? It is July and. Do we have a good episode for you today? If you are like the millions of parents who sign their children up for swimming lessons, you are trying to solve two problems as quickly as possible right?

Problem number one, your child can’t swim. And that leads into problem. Number two, which is that means that they’re not safe in the water. And so today we are thrilled to do this episode so we can shine some light on the five problems that parents are going to face when trying to combat those two core issues.

Yeah. That’s awesome. Jeff, I’m really excited about this topic because, look Jeff’s right. Parents have ,all the millions of parents who send their kids up for swimming lessons every year, always having the same two problems they’re trying to solve their kid can’t swim. And that means they’re not safe.

And you’re looking for a solution, which is I need my kid to learn to swim so I can make them safer ASAP. And you know, today we’re going to be talking about the five big pitfalls of swimming lessons and why they’re not good and be able to solve at least one of those major problems. And once you find out the truth of these five big pitfalls, it might leave you rethinking swimming lessons and reconsidering.

If that’s the best option for your family. And then at the end, we’re going to give you a better option. That absolutely solves both of your problems immediately. Okay. So let’s just dive right in point number one, this is probably the biggest pitfall swimming lessons in mind. Is that swimming lessons cannot and will not ever make your child safer ASAP.

They cannot do it. Okay. There is a learning. Wait, what? I’ll say it again. Swimming lessons cannot and will not make your child safer, ASAP. Okay. So you had those two big problems. Your kid can’t swim. You need to make your kids say for ASAP. You want them safer right now. Like three trips to the pool ago, not next year, not at the end of summer, you know, you, you need to ASAP, okay.

Swimming lessons cannot do that. And I want to explain to you why. And that’s because there is a learning process to swimming lessons and actually a few of our pitfalls are going to tie tie into this same concept and that’s. Here’s the deal. It takes an average of 20 to 30 swim lessons for the average, three to five year old to learn to swim five numbers.

On their own. So five yards independently, that’s a lot of swimming lessons. Okay. That’s, that’s like six to seven months of once a week swimming lessons, which by the way, that’s the normal for how many times a kid goes to swimming lessons in an average wee

Everybody CJ Maurer we’re here back with. Another episode of the Fling and I’m super excited. This is my first time talking with two people at once.
