  • Raising Kings Part II

We've made it to our Season 2 finale and this week is a continuation of our conversation from EP 224 - Raising Kings Part I. Being mothers of Black and brown sons is not for the faint of heart. While there's a constant worry about the world we're raising our boys in, we're also trying to find a balance to make sure they aren't raised in fear.

In our final episode of Season 2, we're talking about our own thoughts when we found out we were having sons and our hopes and dreams for our boys' futures.

  • The Privilege of Choice

Shara and Sasha are both lucky enough to have a choice when it comes to sending their boys to school. We both recognize that having that choice is an immense privilege. Some parents make huge sacrifices to get their kids into better schools, both public and private. Either by moving to more expensive districts or choosing pricey private schools.

Today, we are discussing the options we have for our children. Private School vs. Public School. Which is the better option for your family, budget, and lifestyle? Have you moved to a certain location solely based on the school system? Did you discuss how your children would be educated with your partner prior to having them? There's a lot that factors into to choosing your child's education.

    ⠀
In this week's episode, we're tackling the important issue of advocating for yourself and your health. We get it...standing up to doctors or other medical professionals can sometimes be intimidating. But there is no one that cares more about your health than you do so we've found some techniques to help make sure you're being heard.

  • Italian Excursion

We're on our way to Italy...in our minds of course because it's still a pandemic! Of course, we both love wine so we were ecstatic when we got the chance to talk to our special guest this week - Anna Savino.

Anna is originally from Napa, California but has lived in the Piedmont region of Italy since 2005. Her love for the region—and especially the wines of Barolo & Barbaresco—has led to a career in food and wine guiding with her companies Italianna Tours and Barolo Wine Club. She specializes in organizing small group tours and always seeks out the most personal and unique gastronomic experiences for visitors in the Langhe.

We talked to Anna about what it's like owning a tour business during a global pandemic and the difference in raising children in Italy.

  • I Turn To You

While Shara and I are both boy moms, we have both been teen girls...and whew! Our mommas had a hard time. When you were a teen, were you able to confide in your mother? Go to her for advice?

In this episode, we're joined by a very special guest, Aleeka, The Safe Space Curator and diving into why girls do not talk to their moms, and how mothers can create safe spaces to have conversations with their daughters.

Aleeka Moody aka Ms. Aleeka began her work with children about 10 years ago, as a Program Aide with the Boys and Girls Club. From there, she went on to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Family and Consumer Sciences from Winthrop University. While at Winthrop, Aleeka discovered her love of working with teens through her time program planning for another organization. Upon returning home, to North Agusta South Carolina, Ms. Aleeka felt that she needed to put the skills she gained in college as well as her time working with teens to better use. Thus came Teen Dreams in the fall of 2014. Ms. Aleeka became a certified youth and family life coach in 2016 and focused her practice solely on teen/tween girls and their moms. Through her practice, Aleeka feels that she can help tween/teen girls find healthy ways to cope with issues that arise in the years that shape their identities.

  • Those Who Matter

It's been said that maintaining friendships with other women can be quite difficult. Unfortunately, there may be a time or two that you have a conflict with a female friend. Some friendships come to an end for one reason or another while others are meant to stand the test of time.

In this episode, we're chatting with the last member of our #WineNight Crew, Alisa of Cosmo Crush about how we fix conflicts among friends. You've heard Shara and Sasha mention Lisa as their go-to hair stylist, but Lisa is also a super close friend to both ladies. Lisa has been a licensed cosmetologist for a little over eight years with a little over 15 years of experience to the industry. Out of all of us, Lisa is the go-to for checking us and the first to have our backs!
