Sparked by a conversation at the MDLIBTECH Conference we discussed ways of keeping vairous biases out of our training materials, classroom discussions, audience questions and our language as trainers and leaders. What we learned is that it is really hard to do.

Using the KQED Mindshift article https://www.kqed.org/mindshift/43049/20-tips-to-help-de-escalate-interactions-with-anxious-or-defiant-students as a jumping off point, we talked about how we as trainers and leaders can help those with learning anxiety or opposition learn with their fellow students.

I guess this is our 10th anniversary show. We talk about the things that we discussed that had some lasting effect, our new and old friends of the show and what they are doing, how the show has changed our lives and what differences we see in the last 10 years. We talked the future of training and tried to look ahead (and look behind) 17 years to see what things will be needed to be successful learners and learning professionals and what the learners will expect from training. Then we talked about how we have to look past the language of many books to grab the important ideas that are buried in what can be considered difficult to read through language. Peter Drucker and Mark Twain were two examples of this. There were some other nuggets about the past and the future. Go ahead and listen.

Using an article from Medium.com Use ‘Metaphorical Scaffolding’ to Learn Hard Stuff we had a discussion that talked about how to do metaphorical training, how to keep up with pop culture to make sure your metaphors speak to your whole audience, and our current experience with the talkshoe interface, which has changed a bit.
