Jess Beers life is an adventure…  And she wants it that way.  I catch her in Costa Rica where she has started her next newest venture…  Of course it is fun catching up but then it gets good, real good.  Because when you've worked as a domestic violence counselor to gain some normalcy…  Well you know you’ve got stories to tell and insights to share.

I met jess about 5 or 6 yrs ago at a Kyle Cease flow group in LA…  Which is a 3 day weekend of heavy internal lifting and prep'ing for life’s required leaps.  And of course I know Jess is committed to the process because she’s flown in from Philly.

Is it that weekend that has been cause for all the amazing that is manifesting in her life?  Of course not Mischa!  There are so many uncountable “important pieces of the puzzle” to my life…

Somehow we go deep on domestic violence…  Well not somehow, I’ll tell you exactly how.  To find normalcy, please her parents, or save the relationship with her child…  She finally puts her college degree to work…  as a domestic violence counselor…  And this is where Mischa starts paying attention, cause the shit gets real.  And she’s trying to teach love.  I guarantee you there are lessons for us all.  

I ask her is Domestic Violence an addiction for the abuser?  She gives an interesting answer.  And how does one break that cycle?  “If you’ve seen it, you can imagine it, and it can then manifest in your life”.  “How you were raised is a bitch to get over.”

Her book, which is written (a biography), but yet to be published…   Just listen in; you’ll be laughing your ass off and begging for a copy, I promise.  

And then there is the dream of Costa Rica, of which she has been to many times, and how she finally lands there again is beautiful.  And no mean feat when you have a 13 year old daughter and she is coming with you.  I suppose the real question is who brought who?  

…as it goes with Jess, one thing led to another, and now she’s never coming back. “I am so beautifully positioned for everything I love in life.”.  “Ask for help out loud and you get it…”  She has had a chance to heal in the slowness.  In the slowness there is so much health.

Every night I try to answer that question thoroughly, and having something to tell my mentor, to make sure I am unlocking the darker recesses of the mind.  The more I fully disclose, the more I am ok with myself, my throughs, and humans…

It’s new contact day!  The three steps to steps to starting an episode.  What should I be telling somebody else that I’m not?  Now I need to be asking the right questions of the right people.  Strategy and tactics go to them.  Get clarity on the summit headline so I can see if the speakers can answer that question, if not, move on.  “Suffice it to say” that is enough detail to keep us moving forward.  I was stomping my feat like a child and the sum bitch tells me…  Nice to finally get some people on the summit speaker list!  Meditation creates the space for emotions to come up, come through, and suss out.  Long forgotten stories are beginning to resurface.

It is much more evident when I am projecting my own fears and neuroses onto other people.  I need to ask questions vs telling opinions.  And all this interviewing is bringing me closer to humanity.

In regard to interviewing people, listening that intently for that long is very powerful.  Maybe that is a shift in general.   Instead of saying "you need to let go of how much you are gonna make" vs "what would it look like if you let go of the income attachment?"  Do you feel closer to humanity after listening to the interviews?  And I’m enjoying a Cherry Coke - At the beginning of the covid I stocked up on everything; and for some reason Cherry Coke ended up in the stack.  Which reminds me of my Mormon friends in Wyoming.

I caught Scott at a funny moment...  Day one of his cold calling campaign to secure exhibitors for his newest venture; the Headstock Guitar Lovers Festival.  And Scott hates cold calling!  And then there's the whole pandemic thing...  Which has not been kind to his industry.

Show notes:

It's seems Scott Bass has a gift of turning his passions into his business.  And when your passions are surfboards and kick ass guitars, well that makes for lots of fun.  "I produce experiences that people geek out on".   In the age of Covid, for good or bad, these experiences are in person and not on line...  And that causes, well, some issues.  Why not go online?  Bottom line: Scott is not backing down,  there is light at the end of the tunnel, and snorting that vaccine won't be an issue.  

And don't forget his side hustles, his Podcast's, and the surf report...  Scott Bass may just be leading a charmed life!

...but how did we even get here? ...that's a whole nother story and he gladly gets into it.  How do you get Vanderbilt and Duke educated interns to wash your car everyday and bring you your lunch, well it includes surfing and he tells us that too.    

And then we go deep: 

My problem is I'm Scott scentric, the "bondage of Scott"...  His wife is his greatest teacher and inspiration and you can hear that love in his voice.  

His kids - "they offer you the opportunity to be vulnerable…  and that’s living".

His father - His father is moving towards dementia…  How does Scott answer that challenge?  Because let's be real,  it is a challenge.  Scott's answer, of course, is beautiful.

Getting kicked off of the Amazon reminds me of the Apple situation.  What if I could enjoy the hiccups?  Can I enjoy the perceived not going my way?  The process of putting together the pieces of the puzzle?

My hypothesis: the only reason we see levels (i.e. “this is worse than that”, “he is worse than her”) is so that we can justify our own wonky behavior?  What I see in someone else is in me.  There is no hiding.
