In episode 11, we discuss the mission field in our own backyards and how we can carry out the great commission right where we are.
“Mission” in Latin means “sent”
Jesus says in the bible “As my Father has sent me, I also send you.”
God is a sender. This can be to your neighbor or someone in your hometown.
Here are some ideas on how to reach out –
Garden – start a community garden
Create a welcoming front door
Start a tool sharing program “Local Tools”
Neighborhood watch program
Neighbor day is last Saturday in April
Easter egg hunt in your yard
Neighborhood new year party
Ice cream party in your front yard
Progressive dinner on your street
Neighborhood cookout., potluck, block party
Invite someone over for dinner
A monthly neighbor gathering - same time, no rsvp (drinks on your front porch every Thurs. Night at 7:00 p.m.)
Front yard dance party with bubbles
Bring in mail or water flowers for your neighbors
Take a casserole to the family getting ready for vacation, getting back or one that is sick
Take bread for new neighbors
Take a walk down your street, see who’s out
Give new families some take out menus wrapped up
Take flowers/veggies to your neighbors
Sit on your front porch 20 min each day making yourself accessible to neighbors
What is your mission field? What are some things you are doing in your own neighborhood? We would love to hear from you.
