Tabor Church episodes

  • Mercy, Mercy, Mercy

Today we will talk about James 2:12-13. James gives very pointed and practical words for the follower of Jesus today. It is something that we should wrestle with today and figure out if we are holding grudges or refusing to forgive. These are not easy and that is why I use the word wrestle. Don't easily dismiss this one.

  • Self Righteous, No More!

Today we jump back into James and focus on James 2:10-11. James talks about breaking one law is breaking all the laws. Are all laws really the same? What is the point of bringing this up? James, please explain yourself.

  • Indigenous Peoples' Day

Today we will take a small detour from the Book of James and talk about Indigenous Peoples' Day. What's wrong with Columbus Day? Why do things have to change? It is a day to celebrate indigenous lives and culture but it can also be a day for repentance and prayer.

  • Show No Partiality

We will continue the thought we begun yesterday with James 2:9. Have you ever been discriminated against for race, creed, gender, weight, age or anything else? We need to put ourselves in the shoes of those who have been discriminated against so that we can put a stop to it, especially in our churches. Feel free to join this discussion in the comments below.

  • The Royal Law

Today we are going to talk about the phrase that James uses, "Royal Law." It sounds like it is something only meant for kings or other royalty, but that would be missing the point. Let's get practical with how to live out the royal law. Listen today and then add some of the practical ways you live it out.

  • Poor is rich and Rich is Poor

Today we will hit another section of James where he talks about Rich and Poor. As I mentioned before James will use this as a thread that runs through the book. So once again, I will talk about the rich and poor.

  • Don't Judge a Book by It's Cover

Today is a continuation or addition to the what we continued talking about in our James series. James tells us to not show partiality. Why?  It really is inconsistent with the life of a follower of Jesus. We all need to see the areas in our own lives that we have discriminated and repent and hold on to the grace of God.

  • Orphans and Widows

Today we will close out the week with the last verse of chapter 1. Pure religion is caring for the orphans and widows. So is our outreach only meant for those that fit in the two? Is this a command or descriptive? We are going to touch on all of this today.

  • Control Your Tongue

Today we will focus on one verse, James 1:26. We will touch on two aspects of this verse; religious hypocrites and controlling our tongues. I think we should always realize that our words can and will bring hurt on others. Let's think about what we are saying before we launch our words. Take a listen.

  • Mirror of the Law

Today we will spend some time with James 1:22-25. We see James uses the Law of God picture of a mirror that we are looking at and seeing our faults. What will we do once our sin is pointed out in us: Turn away and forget it or pick a different mirror to look in to? We know what God wants but what will we do?
