  • Can't Tame the Tongue

Today we hit a verse that does not leave us with much hope. James says, "You can't tame the tongue." That's it? There is no exception or but? There are all kinds of things that we can tame in this world but the tongue is not one of them.

  • Let My Words Please You

Today we are talking about 1 verse, James 3:6. There is a lot of talk of fire and it is not in a good way. If the average person speaks over 600 million words in their lifetime, we know that words are going to matter. Let us humbly look at our words and our mouths and give them to God.

  • Tongue or Heart?

We will continue in James chapter 3 and our talk that we started last Friday about the tongue. I think we all know that the tongue is the instrument but what we are really getting at here is the condition of our hearts. What is the condition of your heart today? What well are you drawing up from- words of life and hope? Or are you drawing from the salty well?

  • Teachers, Beware!

Today we are going to jump into chapter 3 of James. We will also talk about this chapter this week at church, but this will serve as an introduction to the conversation. People should be aware that there will an extra level of scrutiny and judgment when you start teaching; from God and from other people. Our words matter.

  • A Vision for Life

Today we will close out chapter 2 of James and talk about a life of faith. If we have a faith that is from God, it will be alive and active. We do not want our lives to simply be following all the religious rules only to please God. Because God has saved us we want to live this life with boldness and figure out new ways of loving and serving. How are you living out your faith today? Please share.

  • Unlikely Saints

Today, as promised, we hit the second example that James uses as a person of active and practical faith, Rahab the prostitute. I think its weird that James still needs to add her occupation after a thousand years, but I guess there is a reason. We are going to talk about Rahab today and the unlikely saints that God can use for His Glory.

  • Abraham is Not Perfect

Today we will continue in James. He ends chapter two by talking about two people of faith. Today we will spend time talking about the first one, Abraham. As I talk about in church, I try my best to dismantle pedestals because no one deserves to be on one except for God alone. Abraham is not saved by his works and that is where we have a great connection with him. Let's learn about a small glimpse of Abraham's life.

  • Even the Demons Believe?

Today we continue with the book of James and mainly talk about James 2:19. Some people like to use this verse to say that demons believe in Jesus and therefore will be saved. That would not be a good way to interpret the passage or form your theology of demons. We are going to talk about that today.

  • Show Me Your Good Works

We continue with another quintessential theme verse of James; 2:17-18. We know with the rest of scripture that works do not justify you. There is no amount of good stuff that you can do to save yourself. With that said, we need to live what we believe. Show me your good works!

  • Faith and Works...working together

Today we will look at another major theme of James- Faith and works. James 2:14-16. What good is faith if there is no action? James follows it up with a practical look at someone without food or clothing. How should followers of Jesus respond to those without food, clothing or shelter? We know what the right answer is but is it practical?
