January is here, and 2021 is coming in hot already. A lot of New Year goals tend to be health related. Rachel Hanes is our guest today, and she is a licensed and registered dietician. She is passionate about health, and serving those around her. A registered dietitian gives counsel on nutrition and food, and supports others to improve their health. Her heart for others shines through her work. Rachel is my mentor, so our conversation starts around mentorship and how we make our relationship a priority. We later get into the health-centered conversation. She talks about her journey of becoming a dietitian, and how the industry she found has shaped her. Our guest shares her health journey, and why she wanted to start a career in nutrition. She then walks us through diet culture in light of developing food-related goals. We chat about the pros and cons of fad diets, how starvation and depravation can affect our brains, and the difference between disordered eating and eating disorders. Lastly, Rachel gives us practical ways to apply the knowledge she has given us in this episode. Take a listen and let me know your thoughts. Take it away, Rach! Let’s prepare for anti-diet health goals.

Welcome to the show, Dr. Marcia Dickerson! Today we have our first doctor on the show, and I am thrilled that we get to learn from her. She is a wife, mom, and a management professor at Louisiana Tech University. This episode is all about ways to prepare for an interview, and she definitely gives some solid, practical advice. Marcia and I discuss the importance of having a sharp resume that is attractive to the eye. She gives helpful advice to spruce up your resume. We also chat about the struggles that come along with job searching, the reality of virtual interviews, and ways to make yourself a marketable candidate. Whether you’re looking for a new job right now or you have plans to stay with your current company for the next 40 years…either way, I believe you’ll walk away with some wisdom from this conversation. Take it away, Dr. Dickerson!

Our dear Colorado friends, welcome to the podcast. Today we have a party on the show! Mitch and Jane Moore and Cam Shorey and Alex McVicar join us to chat all about ways to physically and mentally prepare to move. Both of these couples moved across the country to Colorado, which is where we met them. Then due to COVID related job reasons they moved back to their home states. We share the stories of how we all met and became such good friends. The conversation is surrounded by the common theme of having the courage to put yourself out there. You never know if your new best friend is sitting across from you at a bar or grocery story, until you have the bravery to strike up a conversation. Forming new friendships as an adult can be tricky, but hopefully this episode will help. Both couples share their experiences with their most recent moves back home. I asked them about what they would've done differently during their move, and we share some packing tips, as well. Take it away, Cam and Alex & Mitch and Jane!

Courtney Hammons, one of my very best friends joins me today to chat about ideas and ways to prepare for a productive week. Not only does she give great advice and wisdom on this topic, but we also chat about friendship and how we still remain so close despite the physical distance. Other topics discussed on this episode include: gratitude, knowing yourself, prioritizing rest, bedtime routines, weekly goals, and so much more. Habits create routines, Courtney shares how some habits have helped her cultivate a bedtime routine that she looks forward to.
My favorite quote from this episode: "It's not joy that makes us grateful, it's gratitude that makes us joyful...wow, what a perfect reminder of the season, going into the end of 2020 and knowing that we can still be joyful because of our gratitude."
