Tina Ahearn currently living in The Villages, Florida but originally from St. Louis, Missouri. She is a retired registered nurse with a BSN of 38 years from the Barnes-Jewish Hospital of St Louis at the Washington University Medical school campus. She is married to her husband John of 48 years, she’s a mother of 2, a son living in NY and a daughter & son-in-law living in Portland , Oregon with two very active grandsons there.

Since retiring and relocating to Florida in 2011, Tina became a master gardener through the

University of Florida in 2012 and remains active as a volunteer at plant clinics, educational programs and plant sales which support the Sumter County Master Gardeners of Central Florida. Additionally, since 2013 she is a water aerobics instructor 2-3 days a week at the local recreation centers in The Villages. She plays golf and enjoys going to deep water aerobics classes with a new passion of cardio drumming workouts 2-3 times a week. She is also active within her neighborhood as the AED- Neighbors Helping Neighbors program coordinator.

In September 2023, Tina was diagnosed with breast cancer after a routine, annual mammogram then followed by a right breast biopsy which started her journey of breast cancer treatment, surgery and radiation therapy.

She had 2 tumors which were HER2 +.

Tina is grateful to be back to her normal routines of activity and leisure time but listens to her body when it’s time to slow down and rest. When her activity level increased and she could resume her normal fitness routines, she knew she had climbed her mountain and was now on an easier path forward. She credits her husband and loving family & friends for their supportive care and encouragement throughout her cancer journey. Her nickname as a child was “Pollyanna” because of this character’s optimistic attitude & cheerful disposition which Tina’s parents said she always had. This had been her way to cope with life’s difficulties, stresses, & sorrows even throughout her cancer journey. In May, Tina completed the American Cancer Society swim challenge to swim 5 miles in a month. She finished the month with a total 9.2 miles and raised $983.00 in donations for

the American Cancer Society.

Lauren Meffen is a speech language pathologist and certified lymphedema therapist with a passion for working with voice and swallow disorders. She has remained local to Gainesville after receiving her education from the University of Florida. Over the years, she has developed a love and specialization in working with the oncology population. She has advanced training in management of lymphedema of the head and neck, trismus therapy, FEES, stroboscopy and manual therapy techniques. Michael is a testicular and head and neck cancer survivor that started his career in print advertising sales for a small firm and eventually became a part owner and assisted in growing the business.  As the business grew I He slowly transited to the management side. Went back to school to achieve a MBA so the company would not out grow him .  He eventually became President & CEO and facilitated The sale of the company which consisted of over 460 employees. Now, retired.  Does some consulting but, mostly enjoying retirement. His second bout with cancer (2012) identified as throat cancer, was diagnosed 3 months after officially retiring.  His next journey of treatment and healing was now underway and little did Ihe knew that He would be undergoing the biggest challenge of His life.

Burak Zeybek, MD, is a clinical assistant professor in the department of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Florida School of Medicine with a focus on gynecologic oncology and critical care medicine. Dr. Zeybek received his medical degree from Istanbul University in Turkey. He then went on to complete a dual residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Ege University in Izmir, Turkey, and the University of Texas Medical Branch, followed by a fellowship in gynecologic oncology at Yale University. Dr. Zeybek completed an additional year-long fellowship in critical care medicine. Throughout his career, Dr. Zeybek has published numerous peer-reviewed papers in medical journals, authored several book chapters and presented in multiple national and international conferences. Additionally, he is a member of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the Society of Gynecologic Oncology and the Society of Critical Care Medicine.

Bryan is a physical therapist and Associate Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy at Thomas Jefferson University. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy in 2000 and a Master of Science in 2001 from Northeastern University.  He received his Doctorate of Philosophy from Drexel University in 2016. 

 Bryan is a Lymphology Association of North America Certified Lymphedema Therapist and continues to practice as a physical therapist at Jefferson Health. Bryan works predominantly with persons living with and beyond head and neck cancer. He has experience assisting persons manage head and neck lymphedema, neck and shoulder dysfunction, and trismus. He has lectured, published and/or presented at conferences in the areas of cancer rehabilitation, lymphedema, and shoulder pain and dysfunction in cancer survivors.  Bryan’s research interests focus on promoting physical activity and exercise in cancer survivors, assessment and management of cancer-related lymphedema, and shoulder dysfunction.

Born and raised in the Philippines as the seventh of fourteen children, Luz Bay pursued education that led her to the United States, where she eventually earned a PhD in Educational Measurement and Statistics. Her impressive 30-year career as a psychometrician included holding various corporate responsibilities, culminating in her current role overseeing a team providing psychometric services to college placement assessment program as well as a group of standardized tests that provide a mechanism for earning college credits without taking college courses.

Luz Bay is a long-time resident of Dover, NH where she lives with her husband Mike and where they raised their two adult children, Lucas and Lina. Luz is a dedicated and accomplished individual who, on November 8, 2022, was elected to the New Hampshire House of Representatives, representing Strafford County District 21, encompassing Dover Wards 1, 2, 3, 5, and 6. Being a brown immigrant woman with a medical condition adds a personal perspective to her advocacy beyond her political engagement. She has observed the challenges posed by white supremacy, attempts to limit healthcare access, threats to voting rights, and the erosion of women's rights nationwide.

A seasoned marathon runner, having completed 17 in-person marathons including the Abbott World Marathon Majors and the Dopey Challenge on her 60th birthday, Luz applies the discipline of running to all aspects of her life, emphasizing pacing and thoughtfulness in pursuit of her goals. Her resilience, advocacy, and dedication make Luz Bay a formidable force in both the professional and personal spheres of her life.

Kerry Lenius, PhD, CCC-SLP completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Central Florida and her Master’s degree and PhD at Florida State University. She has published two book chapters, five peerreviewed articles, and completed numerous presentations. Following completion of her PhD, she returned to clinical work and now has over 20 years ofexperience working with adult medical populations. Her current area of focus is in the head and cancer and voice disorders. She leads a support group for individuals with aphasia and is on the Board of Directors for Lary’s Speakeasy laryngectomy support group.
