Melissa McCormick is the author of the Canadian bestselling book, “The Queen’s Daughter” which is a true story of the worst and most highly publicized case of sexual assault in Detroit history. Melissa is an expert on sexual assault and the aftermath, and served on the board of directors of the Windsor and Essex County Sexual Assault Crisis Center for nine years, holding the position of President from 2005-2008. The highly anticipated sequel to “The Queen’s Daughter” called “Thick Skin” which focuses on the aftermath of trauma including topics such as PTSD, depression, forgiveness, relationship with God and more, was released in 2014.
She is also a past president of the Women’s Economic Forum and is the 2009 recipient of the Athena Leadership Award presented by the Windsor and District Chamber of Commerce In 2015 Melissa was awarded an Honorary Doctorate Degree from the University of Windsor and was invited to speak to over a thousand graduates during the commencement ceremony.
Melissa runs her own non-profit agency called the Queen’s Daughter “Cause” to help sexual assault victims move forward in their lives. And, she continues her mission to stand up and speak out on behalf of victims of sexual assault and domestic violence who do not yet have the courage to do so for themselves.
