December 23, 2021The Count of Monte Cristo, by Alexandre Dumas Free Audiobook Classic Period Drama Pt 3The Count of Monte Cristo (French: Le Comte de Monte-Cristo) is an adventure novel by Alexandre Dumas, père. It is often considered, along with The Three Musketeers, as Dumas's most popular work.a weird feeling of envious discontent filled his mind as son of mirth and marrying music from the joyous revelers reach even the miserable hostile ray to which he still clung mort ford sheltered and profited afforded cadderoos then was as usual at his place of observation before the door his eyes glancing listlessly from a piece of shaven glass on which some foals run industriously though fruitlessly interfering to turn up some grain or insects suited to their pellets to the deserted road which led the weight of north and south when he was aroused while shrill voice of his wife and grumbling to himself as he went he mounted toward chamber first taking care however to set the entrance store wide open as an invitation to any chess traveler who might be passing at the moment cadillac quitted this century-like watch before the door the road in which he so eagerly strained his side was voided lonely as a desert at midnight there replaced stretching out into one interminable line of dust and sand with its sides of order of eye tall near trees all together presenting so uninviting an appearance that no one in the senses could have imagined that any traveler at liberty to regulate his hours for journeying would choose to expose himself in such a formidable sahara nevertheless had cataracts but retained exposed a few minutes longer he might have cut them out line of something approaching from the direction of valguard as moving object could look nearer he would easily have perceived that it consisted of a man and horse between whom the kindest and most viable understanding appeared to exist the horse was a hungarian breed and ambled along at an easy pace his rider was a priest dressed in black and wearing a three-cornered head and despite the blood and rays of non-day's sun the pair came on a fair degree of rapidity having arrived before the pawn to guard the horse stopped but whether for his own pleasure or that of his rather would have been difficult to say however that might have been the priest is mounting levis stood by the bridle in search of some place to which he could secure him availing himself of a handle that projected from a half-fallen door he tied the animals safely and having drawn a red cotton handkerchief from his pocket wiped away the perspiration that streamed from his brawl then advancing to the door struck twice with the end of his iron shot stick at this unusual sound a huge black thug came rushing to meet daring assailants at his ordinary tranquil bud snarling and displaying sharp white teeth with the determined hostility that eventually proved how little he was accustomed to society at that moment a heavy footstep was heard descending the wooden staircase that led from the upper floor and with many balls and courteous smiles my host of the pawn to card deserved his guests to enter you are welcome sir most welcome repeatedly astonished schedules now then margot time cried he speaking to the dog will he be quiet pray don't hate him sir he only barks he never bites i make no doubt a glass of good wine would be acceptable this dreadful hot day then perceiving for the first time the garbage traveler he had to entertain kendra's astley exclaimed a thousand pardons i really did not observe whom i had the honor to receive under my poor roof what would the heavy place to have what refreshment can i offer all i have is a disservice the priest case on the person addressing him with a long and searching gaze there even seen the disposition on his part to court a similar scrutiny on the part of the innkeeper then observing incontinence of the letter no other expression and extreme surprise that his own wanted attention to an inquiry so courteously worth it he'd even it as well to terminate his damn show and therefore......more5h 1minPlay

December 23, 2021Music Therapy with Sarnia Free Sessions Audio Recordings Tale Teller Podcast NetworkWelcome to my new series embracing the wonderful opportunity music has to help us find calmness, solace, inspiration and hope. You don not have to play an instrument.Transcription for this episodehi everybody welcome to my first um music therapy podcast i'm quite excited about this and i've been working with mental health awareness and uh i'm i'm experienced in therapy i'm a retired therapist and i was trying to work out a really good way of connecting those two facets of who i am and creating something that might benefit other people and myself because you must understand i think that when somebody is trying to help you they're also trying to help themselves this is the wonderful thing actually about therapy as a concept it's beneficial to everyone or it should be so i wanted to do something that was really enriching and i've been playing around with chords and i've got a pulled a chord podcast that i do and where we look at chords and we try to work out the mood of the chords and where we could perhaps apply them and that's mostly because i'm a composer i'm doing a piece at the moment about lockdown we're just about to enter into a third lockdown i think and it's so depressing and i wanted to do something to celebrate the the the feelings that are actually good we have to really hunt around for good feelings when something or somebody is forcing you into a situation that you don't want to be in i think we're all feeling a bit like that anyway i i've been working with some ideas and i think you're going to find them really beneficial now these pod classes or podcasts are not here to make you a better musician so they don't have a start and a finish and they're not going to lead you into anything other than feeling better through the act of the music okay so don't come with any preconceptions about you know this is going to do such and such for me we're thinking about in the moment and a lot of the time i work with ideas of the future and looking after yourself in the future but and especially with business that you know i'm a businesswoman and that happens a lot and what happens then is you forget your present and that can lead to depression and disassociation feelings of lack of con connection and that's really dangerous so these sessions are literally just about letting go of the past and the future and just being in the present okay so they're very casual i'm not going to try and be in any way um you know overly professional or organized this um casual podcast is all about you and i and the sounds that we can make and how they can make us feel better but we don't have to talk about how why they made us feel better this isn't an academic study this is literally just playing and i really like this idea that we can play it's especially good for adults and it's especially good for kids to be able to play without having any circumstance that tells them what to do so it's very much an experimental play area so i'm going to be working today with some background sounds that i've got from garageband you can get to they're free and this is um a template if you like of backing tracks so um and the one i'm going to use today is called romantic it it can be a bit boring if you listen to just that it would composers would have used this backing to underpin fantastic work over the top so you wouldn't want to just listen to this i don't think having said that a lot of people like to listen to something that just repeats and what happens when you do that is that you can meditate because the you know the brain does this really strange connection thing with um repetition and it almost your ear almost cuts it out after a bit so you can't hear it even if it's quite loud it's quite interesting so i'm going to play that but i won't necessarily use this again and i or i may use it again and if you want to know anything more about it pop over to the telltale club website and you know have a chat with me use......more27minPlay
December 22, 2021The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas LIVE at the Tale Teller Club Complete Free Audio Book pt 2The Next part of our amazing classic novel.where it even the mad abbeythe jailer the rough and hardened by the constant sight of so much suffering was yet a man at the bottom of his heart he had often had a feeling of pity for this unhappy young man who suffered so and he laid the request of number 34 before the governor but the latter sapiently imagined that dante wished to conspire or attempt an escape and refused his request dante had exhausted all human resources and he then turned to god all the pious ideas that had been so long forgotten returned he recollected the prayers his mother had taught him and discovered a new meaning in every word form prosperity prayers seem but a mere medley of words until misfortune comes and the unhappy sufferer first understands the meaning of the sublime language in which he invokes the pity of heaven he prayed and prayed aloud no longer terrified at the sound of his own voice for he fell into a sort of ecstasy he laid every action of his life before the almighty proposed tasks to accomplish and at the end of every prayer introduced the entreaty often are addressed to man than to god forgive us our trespasses as we forgive them the trespass against us yet in spite of his earnest prayers dante remained a prisoner then gloom settled heavily upon him dante was a man of great simplicity of thought and without education he could not therefore in the solitude of his dungeon traverse and mental vision the history of the ages bring to life the nations that had perished and rebuild the ancient cities so vast and stupendous in the light of the imagination and the past before the eye glowing with celestial colors in martin's babylonian pictures he could not do this he whose past life was so short whose presence so melancholy and his future so doubtful nineteen years of light to reflect upon in eternal darkness no distraction could come to his aid his energetic spirit that would have exalted in thus revisiting the past was imprisoned like an eagle in a cage he clung to one idea that of his happiness destroyed without apparent cause by an unheard of fatality he considered and reconsidered this idea devoured it so to speak as the implacable ugalino devours the skull of archbishop roger in the inferno of dante rage supplanted religious fervor dante uttered blasphemies that made his jailer recoil with horror dashed himself furiously against the walls of his prison wreaked his anger upon everything and chiefly upon himself so that the least thing a grain of sand a straw or a breath of air that annoyed him led to paroxysms of fury then the letter that vilifor had showed to him recurred to his mind and every line gleamed forth in fiery letters on the wall like the many tekkel ufarsen of belshazzar he told himself that it was the enmity of man and not the vengeance of heaven that had thus plunged him into the deepest misery he consigned his unknown persecutors to the most horrible tortures he could imagine and found them all insufficient because after torture came death and after death if not repose at least the boon of unconsciousness by dent of constantly dwelling on the idea that tranquility was death and if punishment were the end in view other tortures than death must be invented he began to reflect on suicide unhappy he who on the brink of misfortune broods over ideas like these before him is a dead sea that stretches and is your calm before the eye but he who unwarily ventures within its embrace finds himself struggling with a monster that would drag him down to perdition once thus ensnared unless the protecting hand of god snatch him thence all is over and his struggles but tend to hasten his destruction this state of mental anguish is however less terrible than the sufferings that proceed or the punishment that possibly will follow there is a sort of consolation at the contemplation of the yawning abyss at the bottom of which lie darkness and obscurity edmund found some......more5h 0minPlay
