  • Tales by Tom - A Man of Letters 012

Welcome to the twelveth installment (we are now back in order) of my short story collection I have titled, "A Man of Letters." The stories in this collection are all in the form of letters or about letters. We have a two stories this week that I think you will enjoy!

Story 17…A letter to an editor with an old point of view. Some editors of THE BIG MAGS are gifted because they never lose touch with their subscribers. Others are not and they wonder/ponder/then write about the state of our youth today. What has happened to the youth of the day, they ask? The problem about not being in touch comes to bear right then and there … they answer. Ouch! Oh and a peom!

I encourage you to provide feedback on this story or any of the earlier shorts by email at [email protected] or by voicemail at 1 206 339 5456.

Welcome to the tenth instalment of my short story collection I have titled, "A Man of Letters." The stories in this collection are all in the form of letters or about letters. We have a two stories this week that I think you will enjoy!

Story 14…Nothing is what it seems ---a letter from Nam. This is a faithful record of a real letter which came to me in all innocence. Take yourself back 30 years ---30 years at Christmas time. Put yourself in this soldier’s skin and feel what he feels.

  • Tales by Tom - A Man of Letters 011

Welcome to the eleventh (10 and 11 are out of order on purpose) installment of my short story collection I have titled, "A Man of Letters." The stories in this collection are all in the form of letters or about letters. We have a two stories this week that I think you will enjoy!

Story 15…Paying it forward at Las Brisas ----Not a big deal, my son Mark told me after he’d done it, but what a gesture ---  first, to think about doing it, then, second, doing it. I think that than more often you do things liked this, the more it must come to your mind. We should all try it.

Story 16…A letter to my high school in 2002. I wrote it in reply to theirs, wanting an anecdote about a teacher we’d had back then in the dark ages---any teacher. I gave them one they didn’t expect, and I was only able to accomplish this feat because:

         A. One of my neighbors moved       B. The coach made me mad      C. It was getting dark and I had to concentrate really hard.

Welcome to the nineth installment of my short story collection I have titled, "A Man of Letters." The stories in this collection are all in the form of letters or about letters. We have a two stories this week that I think you will enjoy!

Story 12…Clutter, like art, must be in the eye of the beholder. Is it any wonder magazines are dropping out of circulation like flies? Are they relevant these days?  I guess some are, but others are stuck in a rut of incompetence.

Story 13…Friday through Monday, then Tuesday. This is about a long weekend. Don’t we love ‘em? Trouble is that Tuesday always comes. This one was a little worse than others.

I encourage you to provide feedback on this story or any of the earlier shorts by email at [email protected] or by voicemail at 1 206 339 5456.

Welcome to the eighth installment of my short story collection I have titled, "A Man of Letters." The stories in this collection are all in the form of letters or about letters. We have a two stories this week that I think you will enjoy!

Story 10…Tale to shopping experiences, one day apart. Box stores, with no real roots in the community, are generally NOT NOTED for service. If I needed any proof of that, I found it without any doubt. One day later, a business which has been here a long while and who specializes in a unique service, went over the top in handling this customer. Like Dickens said, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.”

Story 11…Pregnant alone. I cannot imagine a more lonely feeling for a young high school girl than giving up your baby, then going back to school after Christmas as though nothing had happened. But some good news came to both the mother and child a few years later.

Welcome to the seventh installment of my short story collection I have titled, "A Man of Letters." The stories in this collection are all in the form of letters or about letters. We have a two stories this week that I think you will enjoy!

Today we feature part two of a story called A Late-in-life Fantasy. It comes in two lengthy parts. Please stay with me throughout. I believe it is one of the best works I have written---remember it is fantasy. The end will leave you hanging, if I did it correctly. By the way, Pete is a real guy, handcrafted to “look like” another member of my ND class of ’56.  This is part two or story 9!

I encourage you to provide feedback on this story or any of the earlier shorts by email at [email protected] or by voicemail at 1 206 339 5456.

  • Tales By Tom - A Man of Letters 005

Welcome to the fifth installment of my short story collection I have titled, "A Man of Letters." The stories in this collection are all in the form of letters or about letters. We have a two stories this week that I think you will enjoy!

Story 6 is entitled Tony Barbera and His Two-year-old Daughter. I was pleased to know Tony’s young daughter, Sam, at a very early age, then help commemorate her very short life in a commemorative way a few years later. The lives we touch for only an instant!

Story 7 is called The Anatomy of an Affair. I sent it to several appropriate magazines back when men wore leisure suits. The mags didn’t like the piece then, and it is now too far past the Age of Aquarius for them to be interested. I think the message, however, is timeless. Those of us who recognize the symptoms will agree --- no show of hands please.

I encourage you to provide feedback on this story or any of the earlier shorts by email at [email protected] or by voicemail at 1 206 339 5456.
