The Disc has its own, of course. In our very brief overview, we’ll take a look at a few of them over the next few days, beginning with The Mage Wars.

Only on the Disc would one expect to find cruel and unusual geography. And it all starts with the continents.

I've always liked the hobbit tradition of giving gifts to others on one's birthday. Here is my birthday gift to you: a meditation on time, and time travel, a la Sir Terry Pratchett.
I hope you enjoy it.

A brief look at the Disc’s more famous, or infamous bodies of water.
If you’re burning with curiosity, check out our new website at www.podpage.com/witches-and-wizards-portal.
It’s a work in progress, but you can get a sneak peek—and send some feedback about it via the page—either a message or a voicemail.

A 3-minute primer on directions, Discworld style.
I’m excited to tease a new website for the show, and another (maybe easier) way for you to support Medieval Gnome Productions. Maybe ways. Stay tuned!

Pratchips turns to the Discworld Atlas today, and especially to the included map, as we begin a week of jography lessons. That’ll be two carrots and one egg, please.
Today we gain a greater understanding of the problem posed by the arrival of a thousand new golems in Ankh-Morpork, and then hear of Lord Vetinari’s simple, elegant solution. Because he is Lord Vetinari. Because he loves doing puzzles. Because he sees ruling Ankh-Morpork as one great, ongoing puzzle.

Today we consider the golem who becomes Gladys, arbitrarily made female and given a dress to wear. Gladys goes from that artificial gender identification to a golem who considers herself feminine, mostly because of the books the counter girls in the post office, where Gladys works, give her to read.
Gladys, by the end of Making Money, has become a fully liberated woman, in every sense of the word.
That begs the question: what happens when the thousand golems with no chem in their heads begin to become free as the result of the Golem Trust’s efforts?
Tune in tomorrow to find out the answer.

Have you ever thought about what might happen if the Golem Trust decided to buy the freedom of the 1,000 Umnian golems Adora Belle Dearheart brought to Ankh-Morpork? I bet somebody has.
Sir Terry’s output was prodigious. In addition to the 41 Discworld titles, he wrote 16 non-Discworld novels, a four-book series called The Science of Discworld (with Ian Stewart and Jack Cohen) and co-wrote the five-book The Long Earth series with Stephen Baxter. All this in addition to numerous graphic novels, short stories, theater adaptations… and much more.
Prodigious doesn’t cover it. His writing was clear, engaging, entertaining, thought-provoking—and don’t forget extremely funny! So make it prodigious genius. I’ve said it before: in a hundred years, if there is still a civilization in a hundred years, Terry Pratchett will still be read and enjoyed. Hell, he’ll still be read and enjoyed in 400 years (although the odds of there being a human species, let alone civilization, still around then are pretty long.)
