Evening song
As the dusk deepens,
into the gloaming,
and the day leaves her burdens to rest,
across the valleys,
of sighs
and silence,
the bells chime,
the hours echo,
into the fading skies
out to the west.
For time moves
too quickly;
shadows close
and lengthen,
with the passing
of summer days
soon, August will become
September,
and a parting of the ways.
For as seasons turn
under the eternal nights,
of clouds,
like ships
and starlit skies,
the curtain falls,
and silence slips
between and beyond
the sunset twilight,
and the awakening dreams
of evening skies.

High Water
The wind is not far
from here;
all covered
in light and butterflies.
I remember the trees that stood there once:
bent and twisted
by the storm
and tides.
Since then,
time has taken
and memories stolen
too soon,
for the sky hangs
above the sea
the waves are in tatters,
and tears fall
under a dying moon.

And here
And here
beneath the skies,
above the trees,
and across
the empty fields,
summer passes,
September waits,
‘til August
slowly yields.

The story closes, the four receive their gifts, and ‘the Bluebird took to the sky, held it in its beak, pulled its cloak of wings across the heavens until the promise of morning.’

August Rain
In the falling rain of silence,
in the whispers of clouds passing upon the banks
of this morning grey
across the weeping skies overhead,
there is only the sound of summer
and mourning,
for in words of blossoms and beauty,
the promise of spring,
is still left unsaid.
