AEW Podcast: 2020, A Year in Review

Disclaimer: This episode was recorded a few hours before Jon Huber’s passing was announced. As fans of Mr. Huber, we are all extremely saddened to hear the news and would like to express our condolences to his friends, fans and family. May he rest in peace.

As Covid-19 continued to spread worldwide shutting down everything from non-essential businesses to public gatherings, everything from the Olympics to movie theaters was forced to close over the course of the past few months. Everything that is, except for professional wrestling.

We’ve all heard the phrase: “The show must go on,” but this year, AEW brought new meaning to the expression. During the current coronavirus outbreak, AEW did the best to provide entertainment for its fans who desperately needed an escape from the harsh reality of the pandemic sweeping the globe. And despite several limitations, the professional wrestling association has done an excellent job thus far.

All Elite Wrestling might only be in its second year of existence, but the nascent promotion continues to make waves, consistently beating WWE’s NXT show in the ratings each Wednesday night with a headlock on the 18-49 demo. The wrestling promotion has been on fire as of late with episodes of Dynamite gracing fans with some of the fastest, most furious, and entertaining wrestling matches ever broadcast on cable TV— not to mention jaw-dropping surprises, unexpected twists, and risqué turns. Ladies and gentlemen, AEW did not disappoint. In fact, they knocked it out of the park in what was a crazy year from start to finish.

This week, TALK AEW asks each host which five random wrestlers they would choose if they could start a new faction in AEW. Unsurprising, Ricky chooses Sammy Guevara; Ian picks John Silver and Mariko selects three women she’s spoken highly about over the past few weeks.

In the main event, the gang discusses what makes a wrestling talk show great and how AEW can improve Brit Baker’s The Waiting Room. They draw comparisons to other shows in the past including The Snake Pit, The Funeral Parlor, Piper’s Pit, and The Barbershop (to name a few), and debate if The Waiting Room is something AEW can realistically continue once the pandemic is over and they start travelling from city to city.

Also on the card is a conversation about Marko Stunt and Fuego Del Sol and whether there is room for these two men in what is already a star-studded roster of AEW superstars. All this and more.

This week’s edition of AEW Dynamite was absolutely stacked.  “Winter is Coming” might be the biggest night in Dynamite history with a main event that featured Kenny Omega challenging for the AEW World Championship for the first time as he faced Jon Moxley— and the shocking debut of the myth, the icon, the vigilante, Sting! Yes, you read that right; the Stinger has arrived in AEW and we have so much to say about his shocking appearance.

This week on Talk AEW, we discuss Omega winning the championship, the pros, and cons of crossover events, and what we hope to see from Steve Borden moving forward. Joining us is guest host Aaron Santos!

AEW Podcast: Full Gear Aftermath

AEW Dynamite received massive hype from AEW President Tony Khan, who promised “massive surprises” are on their way— and boy did he not exaggerate.

There’s a lot to talk about this week starting with the main event on Dynamite which featured an outstanding rematch between Rey Fenix and Penta El Cero Miedo and the return of The Bastard, PAC. Eddie Kingston appears to be a huge fan of tough love destroying one of the greatest tag teams of all time, but will he turn face sooner than we initially thought? And now that Pac has turned his attention on Eddie, where does this leave The Murderhawk Monster Lance Archer? This week, we discuss the many possible storylines that can arise from this fallout.

In our main event, we discuss the highs and lows of Full Gear and who we think are the biggest winners and losers of the recent pay-per-view. The last AEW pay-per-view of 2020 saw a stacked card, and now that’s all said and done, it was clearly worth the wait!
