All-time Ole Miss basketball great Murphy Holloway sits down with Ben Garrett of the Ole Miss Spirit (OMSpirit.com) in this edition of The Flagship, powered by College Corner, and a member of the Talk of Champions podcast network. 

Holloway is now serving as a graduate assistant under first year Ole Miss head coach Chris Beard. The Rebels, following a win over Mount St. Mary’s on Tuesday, are 8-0 to start a season for the first time since 2007.

Holloway finished his Rebel career as the school record-holder for rebounds (1,093). He was the only player in SEC history to post 1,400 points, 1,000 rebounds and 190 steals. He had 39 career double-doubles, the second-most all-time at Ole Miss.

Holloway as a professional played for 13 different teams across several different countries from 2013 to 2022.

Ole Miss and Penn State will face off for the first time ever when the teams play in the Peach Bowl on December 30. Bowl CEO Gary Stokan, Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin and Penn State head coach James Franklin all met the media on Sunday to break down the matchup.

The NCAA Transfer Portal officially opened on Monday. 

And the action is already fast and furious for Lane Kiffin and the Ole Miss football Rebels.

Ben Garrett and Zach Berry of OMSpirit.com come together on this Victory Saturday for Ole Miss basketball to instantly weigh in on the Rebels’ 80-77 win over rival Memphis. 

Ole Miss, now 7-0, could find itself ranked in the Top 25 next week. The Rebels received votes on Monday, while Ole Miss and Memphis both entered the day as projected NCAA Tournament teams, according to Andy Katz of NCAA.com. 

What a turnaround it’s been already under first-year head coach Chris Beard. Beard’s looking to make Ole Miss the fourth separate program he’s led to the NCAA Tournament since 2016. The Rebels have been just nine times in their 100-plus-year history.

Mintz believes Lane Kiffin has squeezed every last drop out of this Rebel team. Ole Miss secured 10 regular-season wins for the second time in program history with a 17-7 win at rival Mississippi State in the Egg Bowl, and a postseason win would clinch the Rebels’ first-ever 11-win campaign.

Mintz just hopes it comes against Texas in the Cotton Bowl, rather than Iowa in the Citrus. Oh, and he’s got some thoughts on Mike Elko, who, months ago, Mintz predicted would end up as the new Texas A&M head coach come this silly season. But even Mintz couldn’t have predicted Mississippi State would pluck from the Kiffin Coaching Tree and hire former Rebel offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby.
