What’s better than one Ole Miss quarterback?

In the case of Lane Kiffin’s Rebels, three, apparently.

The Rebels this week committed transfers Walker Howard (LSU) and Spencer Sanders (Oklahoma State) to build out a revamped quarterback room that already includes returning starter Jaxson Dart.

The Ole Miss Spirit’s Ben Garrett joined former Rebel offensive lineman and eight-year NFL veteran Bradley Sowell and Chad Flowers this week to discuss all the latest recruiting/NIL developments. Plus, the guys marvel at now-fourth-year head coach Lane Kiffin’s recruiting ability.

In this edition of Franchise Player, a site-crossover podcast of the Ole Miss Spirit (On3) and Inside the Rebels (247), Ben Garrett and David Johnson react in real time to the news Oklahoma State quarterback Spencer Sanders has committed to Ole Miss.

Sanders is the second quarterback the Rebels have landed out of the NCAA Transfer Portal in as many days. The other is LSU’s Walker Howard. Howard, a former four-star and Top 50 prospect last recruiting cycle, announced for the Rebels on Wednesday. 

The pair joins returning starter Jaxson Dart in a completely overhauled Ole Miss quarterback room. Dart, in his first year at Ole Miss following his own transfer from USC, led Ole Miss to an 8-5 finish the season.

We don’t have to talk in hypotheticals anymore, so let’s try to make sense of Ole Miss’ quarterback situation, which David believes could be the best in the SEC. Let’s also grade out Lane Kiffin’s year-three performance after what is now an impressive transfer haul.

Ole Miss on Wednesday landed LSU transfer quarterback Walker Howard, and the Rebels are the favorite to pick up Oklahoma State’s Spencer Sanders.

Oh, and the Rebels return last year’s starter, Jaxson Dart, too. Ole Miss finished 8-5 overall in the Rebel debut of the one-time Southern Cal transfer.

Suffice to say Lane Kiffin and Co. have drastically overhauled their quarterback room in two months’ time. They’ve also changed the complexion of what we can no longer accurately describe as a settled Ole Miss starting position.

Howard, who Ole Miss feverishly pursued out of high school, announced the move on Wednesday, the final day for college players to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal. He visited Ole Miss last weekend.

Howard was previously ranked as a four-star and the No. 45 overall player in the 2022 recruiting class. He was the nation's No. 6 quarterback.
