National Signing Day went about as expected for Ole Miss football. 

The only real surprise, unfortunately, was the flip of four-star EDGE Neeo Avery to Maryland. However, Ben Garrett and Zach Berry (Ole Miss Spirit/On3) are both giving the Rebels a passing grade for what Ole Miss was able to get done in what was the first of four phases this recruiting cycle.

College football lost a legend this week with the passing of Mississippi State head coach Mike Leach.

Ben Garrett (Ole Miss Spirit/On3) joined the Brad and Chad Podcast this week to discuss, as well as to break down the most recent NCAA Transfer Portal action for Lane Kiffin and the Ole Miss football Rebels.

Among the topics is a midweek visit to Ole Miss by Texas A&M wide receiver Chris Marshall, a former five-star prospect ranked last recruiting cycle as the No. 3 wideout in the country.

Marshall landed in Oxford on Tuesday with his former high school teammate at Ford Bend (Texas) Marshall, Adari Haulcy, a transfer safety from New Mexico.

The entire college football community collectively mourned the passing of legendary, long-time head coach Mike Leach on Tuesday.

Leach died at 61 following a cardiac event that necessitated Leach being rushed to the hospital over the weekend. He never recovered.

Alabama made a push, but as announced on Sunday, four-star 2023 linebacker Suntarine Perkins, Ole Miss’ top-ranked commitment, is all-in and set to sign with the Rebels.

As Charles Power, On3’s director of scouting and rankings, detailed in this edition of #notcommitted, Ole Miss should be fired up about what it’s getting in Perkins, who’s ranked as the nation’s No. 65 overall player and No. 4 linebacker. 

Perkins is also the No. Prospect in Mississippi.

Plus, thoughts on the MS-AL All-Star Game, which Power caught three practices of, as well a potential flip candidate for the Rebels and a potential safety target off of Team Alabama.

Things are happening in Ole Miss football recruiting. Suntarine Perkins, the Rebels’ top-ranked 2023 commitment, has re-affirmed his pledge, while Dante Dowdell, the four-star in-state running back, never made it in for a scheduled Ole Miss visit over the weekend.

All the while, Ole Miss’ many moving targets in the NCAA Transfer Portal are considering their options, though the Rebels could be in the driver’s seat to land Mississippi State wide receiver transfer Rara Thomas, who, unlike Dowdell, did find his way to Oxford.
