Today’s episode features revered Toronto type artist, Christopher Rouleau. His work has been seen in the pages of Today’s Parent and Chatelaine magazines, as well as for companies like Pepsi and LG. He’s also a writer, educator and co-founder of Ligatures, Toronto’s typography hub.
In this episode, you’ll learn why setting creative limits is a good thing, why there’s a seat at the table for everyone and the fact that peameal bacon is rarely $0.99. Christopher’s positivity and down-to-Earth demeanour are sure to make listeners feel inspired to create their own great work.

It’s time for our second Talk Paper Quizzers episode where contestants answer trivia questions to compete for the completely fictional, completely worthless, but highly-coveted “Apostrophe”.
In this episode, a live studio audience of typography students face off in 4 typesetting category rounds: formatting, focusing (emphasizing), fine-tuning and finessing.
The questions are based on chapters 5-8 of Type Rules! The Designer's Guide to Professional Typography, Third Edition by Ilene Strizver, as well as a number of Talk Paper Scissors podcast episodes: 013 - 017.

The octothorpe goes by many names (such as the number sign and pound sign), but it’s resurgence in recent years is due to its new “hashtag” status. In today’s episode Diana tells the octothrope’s story from ancient Rome to modern tweets and the fact that it was only officially named “octothorpe” about 50 years ago. Who knew such a little symbol could have such a big backstory? #octothorpe

We’re so dashing excited about this episode! Diana finds herself talking about one of the simplest punctuation marks - the humble hyphen. There are no fewer than seven (seven!) different hyphen-like characters commonly used, including four different dashes, a mathematical minus sign, a catch-all stand-in called a hyphen-minus (a hyphenated hyphen!) and finally… the hyphen. Plot twists and turns take listeners on a roller coaster ride in Punctuation Park… and Diana tells a really bad joke about hyphens… and Kelly Kapoor is quoted. It’s pretty magical.
