Talkin' Jacks

Well, we kept a clean sheet… but that’s about the only good thing that happened over the weekend in Pittsburgh. If Ben and Alex sound like broken records during this episode, it’s because so far this season has been a broken record of disappointing performances.

Hopefully we entertain you with our sadness.

Thank you for listening!

Come on you Jacks!

We are back with another great Talkin’ Jacks Extra featuring returning guest Justin Ashcraft of Mongoals!!

We talked to Justin about Pittsburgh’s season so far, their goalkeeping issues, the vaunted Bob Lilley defense and what has been the cause of the ‘Hounds slow start. We also got to hear a cool story about their owner and his crazy Spongebob name!

You can listen to Justin on Mongoals wherever podcasts are found.

Hey that’s not so bad now is it? The Jacks drew Nashville SC 1-1 on the road on Saturday and due to internet issues and prior engagements, Alex and Ben saw one half of the game each, so we asked our friend Jason Bailey to jump on the pod with us and recap what went down.

Thanks to Jason for joining us!

Three Independence players were named to their respective national team squads for the upcoming Concacaf Gold Cup.

There’s not much more to write as episode descriptions. We are just sad. We try to talk about what went right (3 man back line gave up less shots and less quality shots overall) what went wrong (lack of urgency, bad defensive errors etc.) and what can be forgotten (poor field conditions.)

We also answered a load of questions, including some serious and some silly. Thanks for participating in the question process everyone. Can't wait to see Kemba Walker suit up on the wing for Charlotte!

Now let’s go beat the Florida Soccer Soldiers (please)

Alex is back in the New York groove and back on the podcast once again! The guys break down what turned out to be a pretty boring match against Hartford Athletic and discuss why they thought it was a missed opportunity to pick up a vital 3 points against an inferior opponent.

We also discuss our thoughts on the problems in midfield and give our ideal starting XIs in the listener question segment.

On this episode of TJ Extra I was welcomed by Myke Furhman of 2nd Regiment Supporters. We discuss the upcoming matchup between Hartford Athletic and Charlotte Independence this Saturday.

In this episode Ben does his first ever solo pod while Alex is off enjoying his vacation. He awkwardly discusses the 1-1 draw against Tampa Bay Rowdies. Enjoy it, or don't.

Welp. It happened again :( Our beloved Jacks fell to NCFC by a score of 0-3 at home last Saturday and it has brought out some intense emotions from the Independence fanbase. Our good friend Chris Davis joined Ben and Alex to discuss the loss, the season as a whole and a little bit of the philosophy behind what we do at Talkin’ Jacks. It was a great conversation and one of our favorite episodes to date, despite some of the poor play recently.

In segment 2, we interviewed Matt from the Unused Substitutes to talk all things Tampa Bay Rowdies. We talked about Tampa’s form to start the year, former Jacks Yann Ekra and Jaime Siaj. We also chat a bit about Neil Collins’ approach in his first full season as the head coach.

If you want to hear more from Matt, check out the Unused Substitutes wherever you listen to podcasts, or go to http://www.theunsubs.com.

What a long week! Alex and Ben do their best to recap the 1-2 loss to NYRBII on Saturday as well as the 2-1 victory over Bethlehem Steel, their first win of the season and the Jim McGuinness era!!

We focus on a lot of the individual performances of players and what getting that first win could mean for the team.

As always, we answered some great listener questions and overall had a grand old time. See you Saturday for the next match of the Southern Derby Cup against NCFC at the Plex!

Thank you for listening!
