It's a horror filled weekend as Dom is joined once again by Sean of Math Teacher Movies to break down the latest film from auteur Ari Aster, the disturbed mind behind "Hereditary" & "Midsommar," his third feature film, Beau is Afraid. An Odyssean, Lynchian journey centered around Joaquin Phoenix's character Beau, who is attempting to avoid the mass amount of crazy people surrounding his apartment who takes a lot of medication for his perceived anxiety to get to his mother's (Patti LuPone) funeral. He ends up getting kidnapped by a suburban couple (Nathan Lane, Amy Ryan) who are attempting to use him to replace their son who died; a forest theater troupe that shows him his potential future; reunites with a former crush (Parker Posey) before going through one of the most bonkers climaxes of all time. It's a whirlwind of emotions and events that is all a representation of Ari's inner anxiety and insecurity, not to mention it sours by at 3 hours. They also take a minute to talk about Evil Dead Rise, the latest installment in the Evil Dead franchise, which is just as bloody and disgusting as the last few. It's all covered here on the #talkintvpodcast as they get closer to the summer!
What's going on guys! This was more of a casual fun week, so naturally, Nicolas Cage had to be involved. Dom sits down with Kristen aka Ms. Filmingo to talk about Renfield, the strangest of premises wherein its a Dracula film from the perspective of his hapless assistant Renfield (Nicholas Hoult) who wishes to break free of his masters evil control while also attempting to redeem himself for the years of hurt he's caused people by serving Dracula (Nicolas Cage). He attones for this by commiting acts of heroism with the powers he's acquired from the aging vampire, but this only brings him into a brewing police-mafia conflict, in which officer Rebecca Quincy (Awkwafina) is attempting to take down the crime cartel that killed her father, led by Teddy Lobos (Ben Schwartz) and his mother Bellafrancesca (Shohreh Aghdashloo). It's a confusing blend of tones to say the least, and it's all covered right here on the #talkintvpodcast
We're into the second quarter of the year people! April and Spring are upon us, which means a whole new batch of movies, and we're kicking it off with what will probably be the first close to a billion dollar hit of the year, the Super Mario Bros. movie! After a string of successful video game adaptations, Dom & Luk Reviews break down the latest entry from Illumination & Nintendo, Mario's parent company, which sets out to provide a nice, family friendly film filled with colorful visuals and plenty of references to the game. People are so used to and conditioned for all their animated movies being filled to the brim with pop culture references, self aware meta narratives and innuendos, so normally a movie this safe would annoy me. But the movie remains steadfast to its principles, and the principles of the game. Mario (Chris Pratt) & Luigi (Charlie Day) are regular plumbers attempting to start their own company in Brooklyn when they are sucked down a wormhole into another realm where they must save the mushroom kingdom led by Princess Peach (Anya Taylor-Joy) from the evil Bowser (Jack Black), teaming up with other allies like Toad (Keegan Michael-Key) & Donkey Kong (Seth Rogen) along the way. We also broke down the latest film from Matt Damon & Ben Affleck, Air as well as the first two episodes of this season of Succession. Be sure to keep tuning in to the #talkintvpodcast for more great episodes every week.
We're wrapping up March Madness with a very much anticipated set of releases. Dom is joined once again by action guru Luk of Luk Reviews to review John Wick: Chapter 4, the fourth installment in the hit action franchise that has been a staple of the last decade. Picking up from the last one, the titular Wick, played once again by Keanu Reeves, is hell bent on taking out the members of the High Table who betrayed him in the last one, only to find himself up against a new adversary, the Marquis de Cremont, who is equally as hell bent on seizing power by destroying Wick once and for all. To do this, he recruits an old ally of Wick's, the equally lethal Caine (Donnie Yen), as well as a horde of new assassins, as we once again explore the assassin underground world set up by the previous three films. Franchise staples Ian McShane, Lance Reddick & Laurence Fishburne return as Winston, Charon & the Bowery King, along with new cast members Bill Skarsgard, Donnie Yen, Hiroyuki Sanada, Anna Sawayama, Natalia Tena, Clancy Brown & Scott Adkins. Then, they give a preview for the pending fourth and final season of Succession, which has taken the world by storm the last couple years as the must watch it show. Series creator Jesse Armstrong had recently announced that this season would be the final one, meaning all eyes are on the Roy siblings as they gear up to take down their father after he screwed them out of the company in the season 3 finale. It's another gangbusters episode of the #talkintvpodcast new episodes released every Monday.
The third installment of March Madness aka double feature month is here, and Dom is joined by his old friend Jao from Unyolo Movie Blogs to discuss and break down one of the most confusing movie releases of the year, the latest film in the now rendered mute slate of DC films set to release this year, Shazam: Fury of the Gods, along with the premiere of the third and potentially final season of the Apple TV+ smash hit show Ted Lasso. Jao & Dom break down everything from why people fell in love with Ted Lasso in the first place to saying goodbye to it and how it's got a chance to go out on a real high, to their very conflicted feelings about Shazam and how it's the second big superhero release of 2023 that felt dead on arrival due to the never-ending extenuating circumstances around DC Studios. It's once again another interesting conversation, and be sure to keep tuning in for more great content only on the #talkintvpodcast
We've got another action packed, bloody episode for the second installment of March Madness, in the form of Scream 6! The latest installment in this never ending meta slasher franchise and the second entry directed by the Radio Silence duo, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin & Tyler Gillett. A direct sequel to last year's "ScreaVm" this entry follows the surviving characters from the last entry now in New York for college, only to find themselves being targeted by ANOTHER Ghostface killer with ties to the last one. Dom is joined by Dustin "The Duster" Mason & Kristen aka Ms. Filmingo to break down the Scream franchise and whether this new installment does the franchise justice. Then Kristen talks about the final 5 episodes of You Season 4 before they give their predictions as to what's going to win at tonight's Academy Awards. Be sure to keep tuning in to future installments of the #talkintvpodcast released every Monday.
March Madness is upon us people! No, not the American sport tradition, this is the Talkin' TV March Madness! We will be reviewing two major topics every week this month, and we're starting it off with two things that at least for me, had a complete opposite expectation vs. quality. Dom is joined by Luk of Luk Reviews to discuss the long awaited premiere of the third season of the Mandalorian, along with the release of the less anticipated but surprisingly great Creed III. Mandalorian returns after several years of waiting, in which we've gotten a new animated show and 3 new live action Star Wars shows, making its previously unique take on Star Wars somewhat stale now. Creed III returns 5 years after the last one, with Michael B. Jordan directing now in addition to starring, and pits his character Adonis "Donnie" Creed against former friend turned foe Damien "Dame" Anderson, portrayed by Jonathan Majors, who's just been released from jail after an almost 20 year stint and has a chip on his shoulder. These two friends battle it out both onscreen and off, with Jordan & Majors hitting it off, one as a former rising superstar, the other as the current rising superstar, promising us the viewing audience that their working relationship will evolve to become the 21st century Al Pacino & Robert DeNiro. For all of this and more, tune in every week for new episodes of the #talkintvpodcast every Monday on Spotify & Apple Podcasts.
Naturally, for the craziest movie of the year so far, we had to get the craziest panel yet. Dom is joined by two of his oldest friends, Dustin "The Duster" Mason & Dontre "Tarantino" James to break down easily one of the most ridiculous ideas for a movie in a long time, one that stretches the "based on a true story" concept so far the term is practically meaningless at this point, and somehow the best thing that Elizabeth Banks has directed, Cocaine Bear. Based loosely on a 1985 story about a bag of cocaine that got dropped in the woods in Georgia, was ingested by a bear and subsequently caused it to die, this non-stop coke-fueled movie is one part slapstick comedy, one part gruesome creature feature. With an ensemble cast sporting the likes of Ray Liotta, O'Shea Jackson, Jr,. Alden Ehrenreich, Keri Russell, Brooklyn Prince, Christian Covery, Kristofer Hivju, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Margo Martindale & Isiah Whitlock, Jr., this movie truly is a wild ride and one for the ages, as the titular bear goes on a rampage after eating cocaine. Dom, Dustin & Dontre break down everything about the movie before going on a few rants of their own about the Oscars, the SAG awards, The Whale, Avatar: The Way of Water, etc. It's a crazy time. New episodes of the #talkintvpodcast uploaded every Monday.
What's going on guys, we're back with another week, which means we've got another podcast, which means another movie to watch. What's the movie? A Marvel movie...oh no. The fact that's the reaction that we have towards the MCU should make the writing on the wall pretty obvious, but the almost unbearable amount of negative reactions that came from the initial release of the third film in the Ant-Man trilogy, Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania were staggering to say the least. Scott Lang, in the wake of the Endgame snap, has become a successful writer and celebrity, while his almost adult daughter Cassie has become an activist. Her latest attempt, a quantum signal developed by her and Hank Pym, has the unfortunate side effect of beaming them back down to the Quantum Realm and bringing them face to face with a foe from Janet's past and the new MCU big bad: Kang the Conqueror. Dom is joined by his old friend Brandon Wettig aka Brandocritic to break down exactly what's going on with the MCU, why this movie seems to be the latest target for fan's wrath, whether it's as bad as everyone says it is, and what this spells out for movies going forward. New episodes released every Monday on the #talkintvpodcast
We're 2 weeks into February, Superbowl Sunday is passed, it's almost time for Valentine's Day, so before the return of the MCU next week with Ant-Man, we decided to go over what some may view as a romance and what others will view as it should be, stalker porn, that being the latest Netflix viral sensation, You. Originally over at Lifetime, the show based off a book of the same name by Caroline Kepnes, follows Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley), a book store clerk and professional stalker who attempts to form his perfect relationship by formulating a many stage plan that involves months of stalking and monitoring girls accounts. Its a twisted show that goes in a lot of unexpected directions. With the premiere of the first half of the show's fourth season this past week, tying into a recent Netflix trend of splitting their seasons into multiple parts, Dom is joined by Kristen aka Ms. Filmingo of the M & K Productions podcast to break down everything about this show, why people enjoy it and what's next for Joe Goldberg, all right here on the #talkintvpodcast
