  • Episode 161 - The Fabelmans (w/Brandon Fallat)

Happy Post-Thanksgiving everyone! Hope you all enjoyed your turkey day, as we begin the countdown to the end of the year! And what better way to spend the holidays than with family, eating lots of food, and watching a nice family movie. Because that's exactly what legendary director Steven Spielberg's latest film "The Fabelmans" is, a nice family film about a kid who falls in love with movies and filmmaking at a young age, and how it acts as a voyeaur for his entire life leading up to his parents divorce and him getting into the film industry. Sound familiar? Brandon Fallat is back and joins Dom on their examination of Spielberg in his fifth decade of filmmaking, how this very may well be the most personal film he's ever made, where this fits into his canon, and what the film hopes to offer. • Episode 160 - Yellowstone (w/Eli Holicky)

What's going on everybody. On today's episode, Dom is joined once again by his old friend Eli Holicky, the second resident TV expert, to break down the latest peak TV show from a network that nobody expected, that being Paramount's "Yellowstone." The show is currently airing its 5th season on the show, having premiered back in 2018. Created by Taylor Sheridan, a former actor who moved into scriptwriting and then filmmaking, the show explores the lives of the Dutton family, who own the largest ranch in Montana and are constantly under threat from other land developers, Native Americans looking to take back their land and politicians. Starring Kevin Costner, Kelly Reilly, Luke Grimes, Wes Bentley, Cole Hauser, Kelly Asbille & Gil Birmingham, Dom & Eli break down the show, why it seems to be striking a cord for so many people, the cast, and where it stands in the current pop culture lexicon. • Episode 159 - Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (w/Luk Reviews)

Oh boy, here we go. This was always going to be a tough one for a variety of different reasons, the least which being Chadwick Boseman's tragic passing. But somehow, someway, with everything possibly going against them, Ryan Coogler and team pulled off a movie that should not have worked as well as it did. The truth is that Wakanda Forever might just be one of the best the year of 2022 has to offer. In the wake of T'Challa's death, Shuri, Ramonda, Okoye, M'Baku and rest of the world must prepare themselves against a world that is hellbent on finding vibranium, and the emergence of a new threat in the form of the underwater nation of Talocan, led by iconic Marvel character Namor the Sub-mariner, portrayed onscreen by "Narcos" star Tenoch Huerta. Dom & Luk sit down to discuss the events leading up to the film, how they factored in, and what truly allowed this film to stand out amongst a mediocre movie year. • Episode 158 - Weird: The Al Yankovic Story

Well this is one that none of us were expecting. Chris & Dom sit down to break down the Roku Original, "Weird: The Al Yankovic Story" a fictionalized biopic of the titular parody musician who was made famous for making style pastiches of songs but changing the lyrics, usually in a polka fashion with his famous accordian. This movie takes all the tried and true music biopic bits and throws them in a cocktail stew of insanity, as this incorporates action, comedy and truly bizarre imagery to make a movie that in actuality, is just a really well made comedy. It originates from a Funny or Die sketch that Weird Al wrote, with the same director, Eric Appel, helming it, and this movie is a ball from start to finish. The fact that Daniel Radcliffe got the part by being the best at Weird Al karaoke is amazing. Be sure to keep tuning into new episodes of the #talkintvpodcast every Monday!

  • Episode 156 - Black Adam (w/Unyolo Movie Blogs)

Lo & Behold, we actually have a DC movie worth talking about. After arguably the most tenuous year the company has ever had, being bounced around from AT&T to Discovery, to cutting half their planned content, to delaying more of their upcoming movies, to behind the scenes problems with stars, DC finally has a movie that we can safely say is a fun movie to watch, and that is "Black Adam." Starring Dwayne "the Rock" Johnson as the titular anti-hero, this movie sees him reawakened in the modern day and having to contend with forces both good and evil, as he comes into conflict with the Justice Society of America. Dom is joined by his old friend Unyolo of Unyolo Movie Blogs to break down what works and what doesn't about the movie and how it actually spells out something positive for DC going forward. • Episode 155 - Halloween Ends

Well, another of Chris' favorite franchises scorched to the ground. We're here today to talk about Halloween Ends, the final installment in the Blumhouse trilogy of Halloween movies, directed by David Gordon Green and written by him and Danny McBride. They act as the third official reboot of the franchise, wiping out the rest of the Halloween canon and following Laurie Strode as she attempts to move on past Michael Myers, even after he escapes from his maximum security prison (again) and comes after her. The last film, 2021's "Halloween Kills" saw Michael taking on the entire town of Haddonfield rather than just Laurie, and now, we have a new threat in the form of Corey Cunningham, a kid with a dark secret that the town looks to as their new boogeyman, who gives off signs he might have a dark passenger inside him as well. Dom & Chris break down all the problems with this latest iteration of the character, how this is the latest example of how the 2010's screwed up a classic franchise, and what this movie got surprisingly right, if only by accident. • Talkin' Thrones Finale - The Iron Throne

Well, all things come to and end. We had a great run recapping every minute of this show, and it worked well, not only because we got a Game of Thrones prequel that coincided with the last couple episodes of this podcast, but also because it seems that fantasy storytelling is making a huge comeback across all mediums. Between the Witcher and the Sandman on Netflix, His Dark Materials on HBO, Dune in theaters along with the critically mixed reception of Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power on Amazon, along with Wheel of Time, fantasy storytelling has arguably returned in a very large capacity, and it's all thanks to this show. Game of Thrones, despite all the flaws of the last season, is a pop culture phenomenon, and alongside the Marvel Cinematic Universe, changed long form storytelling forever. With its attention to detail, incredible characters, amazing adherance to morally grey subject matter and jaw dropping special effects in the later seasons, the show has earned its place in the lexicon of shows. And now, to answer the question we set out to do when we first started this show in April of last year: what went wrong? What happened to cause arguably the biggest and most important show of the last decade to just vanish without a trace? All of that and more is answered on tonight's finale. Pat and I have had a great time breaking down one of our favorite shows, and we hope you had fun listening to us. But in the meantime, keep coming back for more of the #talkintvpodcast and as always, remember to watch more movies and TV in this case.

  • Episode 154 - Star Wars' Andor

Well, lo and behold, we have a Star Wars show worth talking about again. It's been a rough year for one of our favorite franchises to say the least, with Book of Boba Fett & Obi-Wan Kenobi proving to be less than stellar, but things seem to be right again with the latest installment from Disney+ & Lucasfilm, "Andor." This prequel to a prequel follows the pursuits of Cassian Andor, played once again by Diego Luna, in the series of events that will lead to his inevitable death in Rogue One, as he is forced to run from the Empire and ends up teaming up with a scrappy band of rebels in a series of events that lead to the foundation of the Rebel Alliance against the Empire. Dom & Chris break down everything they love about the show, what this show is doing right that previous Star Wars properties have not, and what this show signifies for the future of media. • Talkin' Thrones Episode 72 - The Bells

We've arrived. Not quite to the finale, but only one more week of Talkin' Thrones before we wrap up the legacy of Game of Thrones and officially determine whether the problems of this final season were enough to torch the legacy. The Long Night wrapped up the army of the dead, and then the Last of the Starks set up a seasons worth of conflict that then had to be resolved in 2 episodes. And we arrive at arguably the most problematic, hated and confusingly executed episodes in the show's history, the penultimate episode of the entire show, "The Bells." And when I say confusingly executed, I mean I don't think there's ever been an episode of a television show that was so well executed, so clear with its story and had some of the best onscreen destruction and carnage scenes of the entire show, almost to the point where it elicits a traumatizing reaction, but feels so out of place in the story of Thrones, such a betrayal of so many of the characters we've spent all this time with. We have characters flipping on each other, making last minute decisions, some of which feel earned, some of which makes absolutely no sense. With both her dragon and Missandei dead, Daenerys has every intention of burning King's Landing to the ground and Cersei knows this, herding the citizens of King's Landing into the city to use as a shield. Varys attempts to do what he can to ensure this doesn't happen, attempting to poison Daenerys and appealing to Jon to take his rightful place as the king, but is instead ratted out by Tyrion and burned alive. Then the attack commences, Tyrion frees Jaime to save Cersei before she dies in the attack, Daenerys' army quickly takes the city, destroys the Iron Fleet and the scorpions, before the battle turns to a slaughter as Daenerys turns Drogon on the city and begins burning it to the ground, resulting in one of the most gruesome action sequences the show has ever put to the screen as they proceed to murder every single citizen in the city. Bunch of bodies hit the floor, as we bid goodbye to Varys, the Hound, the Mountain, Qyburn, Euron Greyjoy, Cersei & Jaime. It all ends...next week. On the finale of #talkinthrones
