  • Talkin' Thrones Episode 66 - Beyond the Wall

We've finally arrived, one of the biggest moments of controversy from the final two seasons of the show, the infamous quest to retrieve the White Walker with the Season 7 penultimate episode, Beyond the Wall! Directed by Alan Taylor, who helped to shape the show in its early days, the bulk of this episode explores Jon Snow & his merry band of men as they trek beyond the wall to carry out their mission of retrieving a solo White Walker soldier to bring south to prove to Cersei the existence of the Army of the Dead. Please see the previous episode for all the flaws of logic in this plan. Nevertheless, the episode is still home to some of the most thrilling action sequences of the show, with one particularly major sequence to bring the house down in the final moments of the episode. In Winterfell, Sansa & Arya's conflict comes to a head, while Tyrion & Daenerys discuss the line of succession post her death. It's all covered in another action packed episode of #talkinthrones right here on the #talkintvpodcast

  • Talkin' Thrones Episode 65 - Eastwatch

We're back with another episode of Talkin' Thrones and things are heating up fast! This episode, titled "Eastwatch" really gets the ball rolling with getting the audiences prepared for the final war to come, with all the characters taking recent developments into consideration as the war with the dead approaches. Daenerys attempts to give fair judgement to the soldiers she spared after the loot train attack, but executes the Tarlys when they defy her. Jaime makes it back to King's Landing to warn Cersei, only to discover that she is steadfast in her resistance. But timing is everything, with the Night King getting closer and closer to the Wall, Jon & Tyrion come up with probably the most ludicrous plan in the history of the entire show's run: to somehow go north of the wall and bring an undead soldier south to prove to Cersei the existance of the army of the dead and get her to temporarily ally with them so they can fight the forces of the dead together. After Tyrion is able to successfully get a message to his siblings about the temporary cease fire and Davos retrieves Gendry from Flea Bottom, Jon heads to Eastwatch with his band of merry men to carry out this fool's errand, with the members of his team including a recently healed Jorah, Gendry, Tormund Giantsbane, as well as the Hound, Beric Dondarrion & Thoros of Myr. Elsewhere, Sam decides to leave the Citadel after realizing they're going to be no help, but not before Gilly discovers a crucial piece of information related to Jon's heritage. Sansa is also warned by Arya not to trust anyone that speaks out against Jon, only for her to fall for one of Littlefinger's schemes. It's another jam packed, action packed episode of #talkinthrones

  • Episode 148 - House of the Dragon Premiere (ft. Professor Pat)

We're back to Westeros in podcast format this time with the premiere of the first Game of Thrones spinoff/prequel, "House of the Dragon." Created by Ryan Condal & Thrones alumni Miguel Sapochnik, the show takes place 172 years before the rise of Daenerys Targaryen, while House Targaryen still ruled Westeros, focusing on the reign of King Viserys Targaryen I (Paddy Considine) who faces a political struggle when his claim to the Iron Throne is challenged with the death of his wife and son, with the claim for the Throne now divided between his brother Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) and his daughter Rhaenrya (Emma D'Arcy). Other figures that will play a part include Small Council members Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans), the King's Hand and Corlys Velaryon (Steve Toussaint) who's married to the King's cousin Rhaenys (Eve Best) previously passed over for the Throne by their grandfather despite having the better claim. Talks for a Game of Thrones spinoff had been in the air for awhile, and after the cancellation of one that was set to star Naomi Watts, news finally broke last year that HBO had elected to go with material based off George R. R. Martin's "Fire & Blood" anthology book of the history of the Targaryens, including the war of succession, aptly titled the Dance of Dragons. Dom & Pat break down the similarities and differences to Game of Thrones, the potential for the show to succeed and what it brings to the table that's different than Game of Thrones. • Talkin' Thrones Episode 64 - The Spoils of War

With the vastly shortened season, we hit the midpoint a lot sooner than I thought, and boy is it a doozy. Building off the monumental events of last weeks episode, "The Spoils of War" is an interesting case, because its the next in a line of steps that Benioff & Weiss were taking to further the pacing of the show than they ever had before, with the next stage in the war for Westeros occuring when Daenerys hears of the fall of Highgarden, which leads her riding Drogon to overpower Jaime Lannister's forces with a Dothraki horde, as a show of what she is truly capable of if she were to focus all her power on taking Westeros. It's an interesting perspective they take, presenting Daenerys on the offensive front and keeping the battle focused from Jaime's perspective, showing what perceived power versus real power really looks like. The Starks are also officially reunited with Arya returning to Winterfell, reuniting with Sansa & Bran, sparring with Brienne and causing Littlefinger more anguish. Jon also attempts to further convince Daenerys of the threat from the North, but to no avail, and is unexpectedly reunited with Theon. We're getting closer and closer to the final six episodes, be sure to keep tuning in every Friday for more #talkinthrones

  • Episode 147 - Better Call Saul Series Finale (w/Prof. Pat, Eli Holicky, Math Teacher Movies)

The dream team is here to bid adieau to another show. After 6 seasons, 2 gap years, one bonus movie and its lead actor suffering a heart attack, Better Call Saul has wrapped up its extravagant final season with something that is safe to say has surprised the world in the best way possible. Starting out as a joke in the writer's room of "Breaking Bad," "Better Call Saul" has evolved into a cantankerous lawyer affair into a deep, multi-layered character study that deals in past regret, intent vs. action, how different actions are judged depending on the eye of the beholder, and the facades that man generates to hide from trauma. All of that and more are explored in the finale, aptly titled "Saul Gone" in which Saul Goodman finally faces the music for his long list of crimes. Dom is joined by Professor Pat, Sean of Math Teacher Movies & Eli Holicky to break down what this finale meant & how it surpassed its parent series to become something so much more. New episodes of the #talkintvpodcast are released every week on Mondays on Spotify & Apple Podcasts.

  • Talkin' Thrones Episode 63 - The Queen's Justice

We're already halfway through Season 7, as we approach one of the best episodes that occured in the latest part of the show's run, Season 7, Episode 3, "The Queen's Justice." This was a monumental episode for several different reasons, the most notable one being that this episode finally saw the long awaited first meeting between Jon Snow & Daenerys Targaryen, with Jon arriving at Dragonstone to treat with Daenerys and attempt to explain to her the threat from the dead, only to discover that Daenerys is hell bent on conquering all of the seven kingdoms, including bringing the North back into the fold. This episode also contains Cersei Lannister's most gangster moment since blowing up the Sept of Baelor, with Euron presenting the Sand Snakes to her as his gift to her, and Cersei getting to exact her long awaited revenge on Ellaria for Myrcella's murder in a scene that is equal parts jaw dropping as it is horrifying. The episode is just filled from top to bottom with incredible moments, characters reuniting and more. Bran finally arrives home in Winterfell and reunites with Sansa, only to shake her with his newfound powers. Jorah is cured of Greyscale and bids goodbye to Sam, who's both rewarded and punished for it. Tyrion enacts his plan to have the Unsullied seize Casterly Rock, only for them to be waylayed and trapped inland as Jaime has taken the full force of the Lannister army to Highgarden, taking out yet another one of Daenerys' allies, but not before Olenna gives him one last revelation before she departs from the world and the show. It's yet another high stakes episode as we inch even closer to the battle for the throne. New episodes of #talkinthrones release every Friday on this feed.

  • Episode 146 - Bullet Train (w/Ms. Filmingo & Luk Reviews)

Who knew that delivering a fun, action-comedy set on a high speed train would get negative reviews? Dom is joined by Kristen aka Ms.Filmingo & Luk of Luk Reviews to discuss one of the most high octane films of the year, David Leitch's fourth solo film "Bullet Train." Set on a high speed rail on its way from Tokyo to Kyoto, the film follows trained killer Ladybug, who wants to give up the life, but is pulled back in by his handler to collect a briefcase onboard the train, only to discover that other competing assassins played by a whole host of colorful actors are on the train as well, in a conspiracy that all intertwines around a legendary Yakuza boss waiting for them in Kyoto. This film is simply a joy from start to finish, with plenty of action, some incredible sight gags and a complex, interweaving plot that keeps the audience guessing up until the very end. Dom, Kristen & Luk break down all of this and more on this week's episode of the #talkintvpodcast

  • Talkin' Thrones Episode 62 - Stormborn

We're really into the action now with Season 7, Episode 2 "Stormborn." The episode begins with Tyrion recapping the audience that the storm happening at the beginning of the episode is symbolic of Daenerys' forthcoming fury she's about to bring to Westeros. After she only makes a brief appearance at the end of last week's episode, Daenerys is back in Westeros and ready to bring the fire and the blood to Westeros, but not before she's propositioned by Melisandre to summon Jon to form an alliance of ice & fire. Jon receives Tyrion's letter and despite Sansa & the North's warning that it is a trap, decides to go, realizing the benefits of having 3 dragons helping to fight the army of the dead. Cersei holds court with the rest of the lords of Westeros she hasn't killed, and Jaime chooses a new commander of his armies. Arya makes a pit stop on the way to King's Landing where she has several run-ins with figures from her past. Sam defies the Citadel by choosing to heal Jorah of his greyscale. It ends with the first of several gangbuster action sequences with Euron Greyjoy's attack on Yara's fleet, with Euron brutally murdering two of the Sand Snakes in the first casualties of the war. It's all covered here on the latest action packed episode of #talkinthrones

  • Episode 145 - Apple TV+, Netflix & the Current State of the Streaming Wars

We took a break from content this week, or rather content took a break from us, as Dom & Chris finally reunite after several weeks apart to talk about the current state of the streaming wars! Summer of 2022 has certainly been an interesting one for content, with people wanting to be nowhere near their television sets or the movie theaters after 2 years stuck inside. They talk about all the changes that Netflix is incorporating after a massive drop in subscriber numbers, what it is that they love about Apple TV and the changes that are on the horizon, break down the current place that every streaming service has on the market, two of their favorite shows on Apple that are in the middle of their runs (For all Mankind & Physical) before wrapping it up with some of the things they've been watching. It's a bit more of a casual conversation, but still a fun one on the latest episode of the #talkintvpodcast

  • Talkin' Thrones Episode 61 - Dragonstone (Season 7 Premiere)

We're in the home stretch people! We're officially onto the final 13 episodes of our very long Talkin' Thrones recap series! We started this season back in April of last year while the pandemic was still in semi-full effect because we wanted to take the chance to break down every minute of one of the biggest and best shows of the last decade and figure out what went wrong. Well, we've reached the point where it all really started to go wrong, but the most surprising thing is that this season at least still holds up surprisingly well! After two seasons that, while filled with some awesome action packed moments that raised the scale of the show quite a bit, for the most part felt like they were dragging their feet, Season 7 launches us right into the action, and combined with the fact that it's the only season that aired in the summer, felt like an action blockbuster of sorts. Jon attempts to rally the north to be ready for the coming attack from the White Walkers, Bran makes it back to the Wall, Arya carries out the final bit of revenge, Cersei makes new allies, Sam learns that being a maester is not all its cracked up to be, and Daenerys finally comes home. It's a gangbusters premiere to lead up to an action packed season, on this week's episode of Talkin' Thrones!
