  • Talkin' Thrones Episode 54 - Book of the Stranger

We're back with another episode of Talkin' Thrones, and its a big one today, Season 6, Episode 4, "Book of the Stranger." It can become easy to forget about some of the smaller moments that help set up for the larger, more memorable moments like Battle of the Bastards, or even something like the Door next episode, but its episodes like these that are so crucial, because they help to directly set up for a lot of the bigger moments to come. Jon has just completed his final act as Lord Commander of the Night's Watch and is about to leave when the first major reunion happens, with Sansa finally arriving at the Wall, marking the first Stark reunion since the pilot. Jon is not yet ready to emerge into the real world, but Sansa makes him see sense once Jon receives a threatening letter from Ramsay. At Winterfell, Osha attempts to trick Ramsay as she once did Theon, but is unable to and pays dearly for it. In King's Landing, Cersei learns a crucial detail and is able to form an alliance with Olenna, while the High Sparrow continues to play his games with Margaery & Tommen. Theon arrives home for the first time in years to learn of his father's death and his sister's attempts for the Throne. In Meereen, Tyrion negotiates a peace treaty with the slavers to less than satisfactory reactions. Littlefinger plots his next move after arriving back in the Eyrie. It all ends with a brilliant fireshow, with Daenerys carrying out her revenge plot against the Khals and showing the Dothraki why they should follow her. • Talkin' Thrones Episode 53 - Oathbreaker

Another week, another episode in the wind down phase of Talkin' Thrones, Season 6, Episode 3, entitled "Oathbreaker," a reverse of a previous Season 4 episode, only with a much different context behind it. Despite this still being an action season, we're finding that Season 6 is mirroring Season 5 a little bit more than we would have liked, considering that we're getting into the phase of set up/spinning our wheels until the last two episodes, leaving a lot of room on the table for some actually juicy scenes. We start by addressing a booboo that Professor Pat made last week, mistakenly thinking that Bran seeing his father's fight with Arthur Dayne happened in last week's episode, when it really happened in this episode. Cersei & Jaime attempt to get the attention of the other members of the Small Council, but they ignore them, while the High Sparrow continues his games with Margaery & Tommen. Dany is finally brought back to Vaes Dothrak, and discovers what her fate was originally supposed to be. We also check in briefly with Sam & Gilly, still on their way south to Oldtown. In Braavos, Arya continues to train with sticks & faces, and eventually is able to get her eyesight back. In Meereen, Varys interrogates the woman who was assisting the Sons of the Harpy and discovers that (shocker) the Slave Masters of Astapor, Yunkai & Volantis are bankrolling the Sons. God can we be done with Meereen. At Winterfell, Ramsay shores up his alliances, with the Umbers turning on their lifelong oath to the Starks by presenting Ramsay with a gift. It all ends with the next gangbuster moment, with Jon, freshly back from the dead and now being seen as a god by the Wildlings, executing Alliser Thorne and the rest of the Watch mutineers, including Olly, before ultimately stating that his watch is ended and abandoning the position of Lord Commander. It's all covered every Friday as we wind down to the Battle for the Throne, only on the #talkintvpodcast

  • Episode 138 - The Boys Season 3 Premiere! (w/The Duster)

Well, to quote a certain song, The Boys are indeed back in town. Dustin "The Duster" Mason makes his return to the show to talk about one of his & Dom's absolute favorite shows, Amazon's The Boys! As one of the only shows that we as viewing audiences were graced with during the pandemic, we were forced to patiently wait two years for the return of the third season, but since 2022 is the year that keeps on giving in terms of peak TV, The Boys follows up a series of returning shows that are coming back after roughly between a two to four year wait, with Ozark, Atlanta, Stranger Things, Barry & Better Call Saul all coming back this year. Based of the Garth Ennis comic book series of the same name and show run by Eric Kripke, the Boys covers a group of off the books black ops-esque crew that seeks to destabilize and take down the various and assorted superheroes, who are primarily all depicted as egotistical, narcissic, mentally unstable people who cause vast amounts of collateral damage and are constantly protected by the evil conglomerate company, Vought. Featuring returning players Karl Urban as Butcher, Antony Starr as Homelander, Jack Quaid as Hugh Campbell, Erin Moriarty as Starlight, Dominique McElligott as Queen Maeve, Laz Alonso as Mother's Milk, Jesse T. Usher as A-Train, Chace Crawford as the Deep, Tomer Kapon as Frenchie, Karen Fukuhara as Kimiko, Nathan Mitchell as Black Noir and introducing Supernatural alumni Jensen Ackles as a new addition Soldier Boy, the show returns with all the satire and violence that we loved about the first two seasons, and potentially a way to take down Homelander. It's a whole new season to kick off the summer season of television and we're covering it all right here on the #talkintvpodcast

  • Talkin' Thrones Episode 52 - Home

Pat and I are back with another Talkin' Thrones episode as we get closer and closer to the finale! Next we have Season 6, Episode 2, "Home," another episode that is heavy on plot and introducing secondary character arcs, as we've grown accustomed to in the last couple seasons. This time, we finally have the return of Bran, to whom Pat & Dom dedicate a significant amount of time to breaking down what's been going on in his absense and how his lack of prescence may have contributed to Season 5's problems. Jon's fate hangs in the balance as the Night's Watch members prepare to defend his body. Arya is finally given a break from the Faceless Men. Jaime attempts to threaten the High Sparrow but finds him to be a much more devious opponent. Theon proclaims his intentions to return home, while Ramsay seizes complete control of Winterfell. Oh yeah, and Tyrion feels up some dragons. All of that and more, every Friday only on #talkinthrones

  • Episode 137 - Memorial Day Extravaganza (Top Gun: Maverick, Obi Wan Kenobi & Stranger Things Season 4 w/Bfallat)
It's a whole host of content! This may very well be the biggest memorial day yet after 2 straight years of really nothing! But with the release of Top Gun: Maverick in theaters, the debut of the long awaited Obi-Wan Kenobi on Disney+ and the return of the long awaited fourth season of Stranger Things, its a content competition to see what can get viewers eyeballs! First up is Top Gun: Maverick, the long in the making and then releasing sequel to the 1986 classic starring Tom Cruise, returning to the cockpit as Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, now in the mentor position as he has to train a new generation of pilots to carry out a dangerous mission, among them Bradley Bradshaw (Miles Teller) the son of Maverick's late co-pilot Goose. Then we have Obi-Wan Kenobi, an oddity in the Star Wars streaming canon fodder in that it's been a project long in the making, as fan demand for the return of the beloved Jedi knight is really what prompted this into existance. Based off the original movie script by Hossein Amini, adapted into television form by Stuart Beattie & Joby Harald and directed by "The Mandalorian" season 1 director Deborah Chow, the series sees the return of Ewan McGregor as the iconic Jedi knight as he undertakes a mission to rescue Princess Leia when she is captured by Inquisitors in a ploy to pull him out into the open. And finally, we have the return of Stranger Things, another show that fell victim to Covid and has been several years since its last season. But with the very much increased budget, the extra time taken to give attention to the scripts, the massive amount of story contributing to each episode and a sense of a return to familiarity in the sort of combined comfort and thrills the Duffer bros are able to inject into the show, it feels like the return of an old friend. Which of this content will win the weekend and what will be forgotten? Tune in to hear the movie nerd and Bfallat talk about it only on the #talkintvpodcast

  • Talkin' Thrones Episode 51 - The Red Woman (Season 6 Premiere)

We're officially here, the beginning of the end. It's been a fun road on Talkin' Thrones, but it all must eventually come to an end. So here we are with the premiere of arguably the biggest and most critically acclaimed season of the show, the big one, the one that gave us Battle of the Bastards, the one that surpassed the books, it's the Season 6 premiere, entitled "The Red Woman." Despite a very rushed and completely out of place, not to mention horribly mishandled exiting of Dorne from the main storyline, the premiere picks up right after the events of last season, showing what's happened to all the characters after the meriad of cliffhangers after Season 5. The remaining Night's Watch members loyal to Jon along with Ser Davos must figure out what to do in the aftermath of Jon's death and Ser Alliser seizing control of the Watch. Ramsay picks up the pieces after the victory over Stannis and is chastised by his father for losing Sansa. Sansa & Theon are quickly caught by Ramsay's troops until an unexpected save from Brienne and Podrick. Jaime returns to King's Landing and vows to help Cersei take back what's been taken from them, while the High Sparrow starts to play the game. Arya is beaten on the streets, helpless and blind, while Tyrion casually wanders the streets in a storyline that by all right should be awesome, him ruling Meereen, but instead plays out like just spinning its wheels until they can get Daenerys back. Speaking of Daenerys, Jorah & Daario are hard after her, while she finds herself right back where she started with the Dothraki. In a rather shocking and abrupt final moment meant to further emphasize what Melisandre is capable of, we discover her take off her jeweled pendant, revealing her true, ancient form. It's a jam packed premiere that's setting up for a hard and fast paced season that's going to result in an explosive climax, and you guys can keep up with all of it right here on the #talkintvpodcast

  • Episode 136 - Men (ft. Ms. Filmingo)

On today's episode, Dom sits down with Kristen aka Ms. Filmingo to discuss the latest effort from one of the very few auteur filmmakers left, Alex Garland, "Men." The film stars Jessie Buckley as a woman who moves to the countryside to get away after the death of her husband, but soon discovers that the cottage is populated by a series of strange men who all seem to have the same face, portrayed by Rory Kinnear. Dom & Kristen talk about Garland's unconventional career, his themes he seeks to explore in each of his films, the very visceral images this film conjures up and whether they actually contribute anything to the story of the film, and where this film ranks within the A24 canon. • Talkin' Thrones Episode 50 - Mother's Mercy (Season 5 Finale)

We've reached it, another finale to probably our most problematic and least enjoyable season of the show yet. Season 5 ultimately proved to be a severe downshift for the show, as this was the full transition away from the books, away from the awesome character moments and amazingly well thought out story decisions that carried the first four seasons to make something that truly earned its spot in the prestige TV hall of fame. Then with this season, to quote Professor Pat, just became another show. An exceedingly well made show, but just another show nonetheless. This finale "Mother's Mercy" is a cap off of that transition, with several moments that were extremely shocking and provoking in the moment, but have lost their steam with the benefit of hindsight, and others that just felt like quick wiffs to set up for what was coming next. Stannis is ultimately defeated both on the battlefield and in his moral compass, and meets his death at the hands of Brienne. Sansa & Theon escape Winterfell in a moment that felt a little too convenient to the plot. Jon is betrayed, stabbed and left to die by the brothers of the Night's Watch. Arya kills Meryn Trant, but is chastised by the Faceless Men for taking a life that wasn't hers. Jorah & Daario set off to find Daenerys, who finds herself at the mercy of the Dothraki, while Tyrion is left in charge of Meereen. Jaime leaves Dorne with Myrcella and tries to come clean to her, only for her to die in his arms. Cersei atones for her sins by committing a walk of penance, naked, across the city. We begin the final phase of the journey next week with the premiere of Season 6, so be sure to keep tuning in for new episodes of #talkinthrones released every Friday, only on the #talkintvpodcast
