Based on a True Story | Judas and the Black Messiah Review & Recap

Judas and the Black Messiah is a film directed by Shaka King and stars LaKeith Stanfield and Daniel Kaluuya as William O'Neill and Fred Hampton respectively. The film chronicles the role O'Neill played in the series of events that led to the assassination of Fred Hampton, the chairman of the Chicago outfit of the Black Panther party. O'Neill was arrested for stealing cars and coerced by the FBI into becoming an informant into the party as part of J. Edgar Hoover's COINTELPRO operation in the 50's and 60's. The film is a radical look into both the events and struggles of African Americans at the time, but also a surprisingly human film. The ways in which O'Neill & Hampton's struggles are balanced against each other in a way that doesn't fit into the typical Hollywood mold at all is fascinating and beyond refreshing, especially given that this could have so easily fallen into historical embellishment territory. Dom & Chris compare this to The Trial of the Chicago 7 and how this film succeeds wherein that movie did not, as well as how this film broke the traditional biopic approach, succeeds in being an extremely deep and human story, and above all else, lets us in on a sect of history that we were largely unfamiliar with! The film is available to stream everywhere on HBO Max!  It's all covered here on Talkin' TV!!!

Experiment or Pretentious? Filmed in Quarantine | Malcolm & Marie Review & Breakdown

Malcolm & Marie is the latest film from director Sam Levinson (Assassination Nation, Euphoria). It stars John David Washington (BlacKkKlansman, Tenet) and Zendaya (Euphoria, Spider-Man: Far from Home) as the titular couple, who, after returning from a movie premiere of Malcolm's, end up in an argument about their life, the decisions they've made, and all the things that encompass their relationship and what they've done with their lives. It's a film that shows what life in quarantine is truly like, with the speed and pace of something that was shot in quarantine. Chris & Dom go into their differing views, with Dom seeing the pace and subject matter as boring and causing the film to overstay its welcome, while Chris admires the more artistic elements, and the means of experimentation that it takes for the film to have been made. Hey guys! So 2020's OVER!!! Hip Hip Hooray and all that. But we still have ONE LAST list to get your guys way. One of those quintessential things that's become a part of every movie nerd on the internet's career is doing their top 10 best and worst ofs for the end of the year. And considering we've already done top 10 TV shows and top 10 Worst Movies, now, at long last, we are hitting #top10movies2020!!!!  2020 was an interesting year for cinema. Despite the tremendous negative effects that Covid-19 had on the industry, Hollywood did what it always does and continued trucking on, putting more of an emphasis on streaming than ever before, and still providing for some incredible pieces of cinema. The movies this year seemed determined to explore what it is we love about movies and storytelling, while also unearthing some uncomfortable truths about real life and asking some extremely existential questions about why we're here. And of course, #tenet because that's a whole beast in of itself. From #nomadland to #da5bloods to #soul to #promisingyoungwoman to #trialofthechicago7 to #mank and so much more! Each of these movies were able to give us something that we weren't expecting to get from a year filled with so much misery.  #Top10BestMovies2020 #BestMovies2020 #Moviesof2020 #Moviesof2020Ranked #Movies2020Ranked #RankedandExplained #yearendmovierankings #endofyearrankings It's all covered here on Talkin' TV!!!

What's going on guys! We've got another super fun filled episode for you guys tonight, and a rather unexpected one at that! People, we are flashing back to a year that has surprisingly much more in common with the times we're going through now that initially believed. 2001 was a momentous year for our country in a lot of the worst ways possible, and despite the fact that the films of that year don't reflect the amount of praise we're giving it, the gems of this year stand out as not only some of the best movies, but some of the best movies ever made. These are movies that would go on to define the culture, some for the next 20 years.  We're #ranking and explaining our favorite #moviesturning20 today. Some of the examples include #oceans11 #monstersinc #amelie #blackhawkdown #mulholland drive and many, MANY more. In addition, we saw three gigantic pop culture staples started this year with the first #harrypotter film, The Sorcerer's Stone; The Lord of the Rings #fellowshipofthering and of course, where would we be without #shrek. #shrekislove indeed.  It's all covered here on Talkin' TV!!!

Alright guys, for our penultimate episode, we managed to put together another fun filled friendly debate for you guys! This time, it's #battleofthesitcoms with popular hit #theoffice going up against fan hit cult classic #community in a debate that will potentially make or break friendships! MC-ing the event is the one, the only, the LEGENDARY Billy McAlveen, who's here to chew bubble gum and take names as he moderates this legendary debate.  The Office is a show that became the water cooler of its time by literally mimicing the everyday average mundane activities for the small screen entertainment. Community was an underdog with a ridiculous premise and even more outrageous scenarios as the show saught to break down the sitcom and television tropes that people return to over and over again. Both shows are pinnacles of their time and well revered amongst their fan bases, but which show is better? Tune in to find out!  It's all covered here on Talkin' TV!!!
