  • Episode #53 - Is this some inside joke?
Don't forget to subscribe to the podcast and share us on Facebook, Twitter, and Google+ ! Episode 53 - Art and Eric are back in the studio to discuss how to annoy fans even more than they usually do.  In the News we discuss President Obama's music playlist and how wonderfully fake it all is and Eric is obsessed with Rolling Stone's list of the 50 greatest songwriters, because maybe he has some sort of inferiority complex? In the Production segment Art give us his rundown on headphones and what he recommends for your studio tracking and/or mixing needs.  Did we mention don't buy Beats Audio...if we didn't don't buy Beats audio. In the songwriting segment Eric and Art dissect Alt-J's "Every Other Freckle" and see if we can learn anything from this type of song structure.  A very complicated song that is amazing. • Episode #52 - Summer Break is Over
Don't forget to subscribe to the podcast and share us on Facebook, Twitter, and Google+ ! Episode 52 - Summer break for the Podcast is over and it's time to get back to what we love most, writing music...about our favorite Podcast. Instead of giving you good news for your musical week, we decided to go with the totally bizarre/strange discussing Drake (who has lots of enemies) Kanye West (who is a gay fish) and Gwar (speaking at TED) For a concert review Art discusses his experience at the Kelly Clarkson concert this past week and the time he tried to sneak onto her tour bus and then soooo totally stayed up way past midnight. In our Songwriting segment we discuss the importance of creating "boxes" in our lyrical segments and building upon each box to make our verses more interesting as the song continues.  As opposed to keeping boring "boxes"/verses, which apparently Eric did in one of his own songs.  Do as we say not as we do, apparently? In our Production segment we discuss the importance of latency, or the lack of latency.  Art being the computer guru he is, gives us a good rundown on how to make our latency as small as possible. Episode 50 - Platinum Anniversary, you get diamonds...I get diamonds we all get diamonds!  Come listen to our music podcast as we discuss life, the agelessness of our 50th episode wisdom and music stuff. In the songwriters segment Eric and Art breakdown the song "Hollow Moon (Bad Wolf)" by AWOLNATION.  Turns out this is a fantastic song from which, we songwriters, can learn lots in regards to composing and song dynamics. Don't forget to subscribe to the podcast and share us on Facebook, Twitter, and Google+ ! Episode 48 - Eric was sick this week and still felt the need to show up for the podcast, which may or may not have been a good thing.  In the news the guys talk about digital press kits, and how to promote your music in the publishing space (i.e. advertisements, movies etc...) Art gives us his equipment production section on how to set up a remote recording system using his tablet and the open source software VNC which can be downloaded at their website. Eric dives into his lyric/songwriting segment and gives us ideas on creating our rhyming dictionary and how to set it up with multiple types of rhymes when writing lyrics.  The 6 main types of rhymes discussed are 1. Perfect rhyme 2. Family rhyme 3. Additive rhyme 4. Subtractive Rhyme 5. Assonance rhyme 6. Consonance rhyme. In the second songwriting segment Art exhibits his new song and records it track-by-track for us, starting with awesomeness, ending awesomeness while giving us some awesomeness mixed somewhere in the middle. In the songwriters segment Eric breaks-down a country song he's been working on and asks for any feedback or ideas on where to go next.  Art and Eric experience literal and figurative joy in explaining the figurative and literal sausage making process. • Episode #45 - Time to hit musical puberty
Don't forget to subscribe to the podcast and share us on Facebook, Twitter, and Google+ ! Episode 45 - We just couldn't help ourselves...mocking Kanye West is just too much fun, so this week we brought the "Kanye-Watch-2015" back once again.  In news we discuss a great interview with Noel Gallagher from Rolling Stone where he lays the smack down on Coldplay, much to our delight. In Eric's songwriting segment he brings in Robert Delong's song "Long Way Down".  Eric and Art break down the 4 major parts of the song to hopefully give some ideas in our own songwriting.  And go support this artist, by the way, as his music is fantastic In Art's Songwriting/Production segment he discusses some music theory with us and gives ideas on how to use the Neapolitan Chord, or a chord progression with the Neapolitan chord in it.  While Eric continues to be a stubborn racist/chordist because he discriminates against the Neapolitan chord. • Episode #44 - Goodbye to my American Icon
Don't forget to subscribe to the podcast and share us on Facebook, Twitter, and Google+ ! Episode 44 - Hello darkness my old friend, is definitely what the American Idol people must be thinking....and of course we're cheering on the demise because we're cruel like that. Also, remember that the John Lennon Songwriting competition will be ending next month, so let's all get our songs together and submit them as a group.  Submit them here. In the songwriting section we discuss lyrics and the importance of the title of a song.  In an article from BMI by Jason Blume we discuss how to come up with a good title and a good lyrical hook. While Eric was hesitant to discuss this article it turns out to have a lot of good information for us songwriters. We then critique "Bright" by Echosmith and Eric decides that using the word "Neptune" is entirely overdone and obnoxious, but overall the lyrics are actually pretty good. For the production segment Art takes us intimately into his studio and breaks down a new song he's working on, but only using two mic's to record drums.  Listen as he starts from the beginning and brings the song to life.
