On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Chris Ostrander (Two in the Box) to discuss how much more the Buffalo Bills can still add to their defensive line given their unique situation as well as some actual reasons for optimism for the Buffalo Sabres.
Brandon Beane and his Bills find themselves in a bit of a bind. New additions Michael Hoehct and Larry Ogunjobi are both suspended for the first six games but when they return for Week seven, if the unit stays healthy they could find themselves as part of at least nine defensive lineman already on the active roster. Of course, that’s before next month’s NFL draft, where Beane’s almost certain to add more talent via rookie picks. The guys discuss how much may end up being too much and if there’s going to be two rookies as high picks on the roster, who can end up being the odd man out, again muddled up by the suspension of two guys who’ll miss a third of the season.
Sticking with the Bills the guys also discuss how they’re feeling about a month out from the draft in terms of what Beane may (or may not) have up his sleeve. Do Patrick or Chris sense a big Beane move coming? They also spend a few talking about the offense including who’s more important to their 2025 success— Dalton Kincaid or Keon Coleman.
Turning over to the Sabres, they continue to be bottom feeders in the NHL but for today at least, the guys are discussing some of the reasons for optimism beyond Tage Thompson and Rasmus Dahlin. Chris talks about what he’s seen and liked from players such as JJ Peterka, Ryan McLeod, Jason Zucker and Alex Tuch. That and plenty more!

It’s another edition of The Podbag on today’s Talking Buffalo and Patrick Moran is responding to a bunch of outstanding questions and comments from listeners, including elaborating on why Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane has done a much better job at drafting since 2018 than a lot of critics give credit for.
As with any general manager in sports, it’s low hanging fruit to point out every draft miss that GM has made. Beane’s certainly had some noticeable misses in the early rounds, including Kaiir Elam, Boogie Basham and Cody Ford to name a few, not to mention some rookies from last year who appear to have a long way to go. That said Patrick not only goes over several of Beane’s best hits but goes deeper, revealing who the next prospect picked by another team in the draft was at the same position. It’s insane to think what kind of shape the Bills would be in if Beane took the same positional player after guys likes Terrel Bernard, Khalil Shakir, Christian Benford, Spencer Brown and others.
Also, there’s pertinent questions submitted regarding the importance of James Cook and also how critical is for Keon Coleman to take a huge step in year two—or is it actually?
Plus, reaction to Stefon Diggs going to New England, a move Patrick would love to see the Bills make before Week one and the high profile Stevie Johnson vs Darrelle Revis Twitter feud brewing. That plus a few hockey topics, Patrick discusses his favorite new TV show and much more.

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren of SB Nation for their weekly chat, this time focused on counting down the Buffalo Bills players likely to be most instrumental to the team’s success this coming season.
To make things a little less obvious the guys disqualify Josh Allen from the equation since he’s the clear but number one choice. Patrick runs down his list with Matt having insight on each player and if he agrees with where they’re placed on the list, and at least a few at or near the top may surprise you.
Not on the list are a handful of prominent players and Patrick explains why he doesn’t have James Cook, Khalil Shakir or Matt Milano that while important, aren’t in his top 10.
Also, Matt has some thoughts on Amari Cooper, Von Miller and Rasul Douglas all remaining unsigned this deep into free agency as of this recording. Plus, is it now obvious that the Bills are taking a cornerback high in the draft? That, Stefon Diggs is reportedly running at full speed again, potential NFL surprises this year and much more.

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Chad DeDominicis (Expected Buffalo) for a conversation on several Buffalo Sabres topics, including their 10 most embarrassing moments (so far) in what’s become yet another laughingstock of a season.
The Sabres are going to miss the NHL playoffs for a 14th straight season, the longest drought not only in the league but of all the major four sports. Missing the playoffs yet again is one thing but Buffalo’s doing it in typical dramatic fashion—dead last in the eastern conference with a ton of embarrassing moments along the way.
Patrick goes through 10 of them and gets insight from Chad on each, including the blown four goal home lead vs Colorado, the unanswered dirty hit on their star forward in their own building, the Terry Pegula “solution is in the room” speech before his team got pummeled in Montreal and the memorable Kevyn Adams palm trees presser among others.
Patrick also has other questions to pick Chad’s brain on including if Lindy Ruff’s legacy will be tarnished should this be a one-and-done season for him, why has UPL regressed in net and what do we make of high first round pick Zach Benson’s relatively quiet second full season with the club. That plus when we can expect to see Konsta Helenius in Buffalo and much more.

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Joe From Queens to discuss a myriad of topics including discussing some of the Buffalo Bills biggest breakout candidates for 2025.
Listeners submit a handful of interesting questions and takes on the Bills that leads to some fun discussions between Patrick and Joe. One of them is wondering who’s going to be the next breakout star for the team and Patrick suggests that the answer not only could be Keon Coleman but it needs to be him. Brandon Beane didn’t do any big game hunting in the wide receiver market and Patrick suspects the biggest reason is the expectation that Coleman takes a major step in his second season.
Also, does Joe think the idea of Buffalo trading James Cook is stupid? That’s discussed as well as wondering why certain player suspensions feel more deserved than others.
Plus, Patrick talks about a major cancer scare he recently had and also an upcoming appearance on a new podcast. That plus Joe’s True or False segment and plenty more.

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by PK from the Buffalo Sports Collective for a conversation over a well rounded set of topics involving the Buffalo Bills, Sabres and Bandits.
It’s the first time PK’s been on the show since NFL free agency started and Patrick wants to know what his favorite and least favorite things about the process has been for the Bills through this point. Beyond comings and going there was recent news that linebacker Matt Milano took a pay cut for this upcoming season and a result will be eligible to become a free agent at season’s end. What’s the chances this is Milano’s last season as a Buffalo Bill?
As for the Sabres, it continues to be same song and dance and it’s as evident as ever that fans are tired of it. The guys talk about the team continuing to be an embarrassment on and off the ice, from their last place in the conference standings to a recent poll by The Athletic that showed Terry Pegula dead last in NHL owner rankings. All of it’s a shame because this is an organization that has two of the best players in the league that don’t get celebrated the way they should.
Also, PK spends some time talking about the Bandits, who are on a bit of a skid by their standards. That and plenty more.
You can follow PK on Twitter @PK_BSC and check out the Buffalo Sports Collective podcast.

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran dives into what the Buffalo Bills have done at cornerback so far this offseason and perhaps more importantly, what they will do at cornerback before the 2025 regular season begins.
Brandon Beane has been busy adding to the defense so far during this free agency period, but those biggest additions have come on the defensive line where they’ve signed Joey Bosa, Michael Hoehct and Larry Ogunjobi. The safety position has also seen Damar Hamlin re-sign as well as the addition of Darrick Forrest.
The cornerback position is starting to stick out as a need at this point, perhaps the team’s biggest. The Bills did bring back Dane Jackson after letting him walk a year ago, but Rasul Douglas remains in free agent limbo and former first-round pick/bust Kaiir Elam was traded to Dallas. Whether Jackson ends up starting alongside Christian Benford, cornerback is in need of talent influx. Patrick talks about Benford, his thoughts on Jackson returning and three veteran free agent possibilities that could still happen, including Douglas.
More than likely however, the Bills long term and perhaps immediate starting solution come come through the draft at the end of April. Patrick breaks down three prospects that could be very enticing to the Bills in the first round as well as three others who could be solid day two picks and contribute right away.
That plus some NFL rule change proposals and more.

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren from SB Nation to discuss and assign a grade for each part of the Buffalo Bills offseason through this point in addition to discussing the offseason for some AFC rivals.
To say it’s been an interesting offseason so far for the Bills may truly be an understatement. Props to anyone who had the Bills signing a Bosa in free agency and multiple defenders who will be suspended to start the season on their bingo cards, but here we are. Matt has plenty of thoughts on the Bills “swinging big” with Joey Bosa while Brandon Beane, rightfully so caught heat for inking Michael Hoecht and Larry Ogunjobi to deals despite pending suspensions, the former a situation Beane knew about.
That’s just a part of an eventful offseason. The Bills also extended three key young core players in addition to the big Josh Allen contract. That’s discussed and evaluated as are a few re-signings including Ty Johnson and Damar Hamlin as well as a few more low key adds like Laviska Shenault, Dane Jackson and Darrick Forrest.
The guys also evaluate and discuss how the rest of the AFC east has done during this period in addition to the Bengals ponying up for both their star receivers, the Chiefs having a very interesting offseason and plenty more.

On this episode of Talking Buffalo it’s another edition of listener submitted takes and questions called “The Podbag” and Patrick Moran is responding them, including shutting down increased chatter that fans would like to see James Cook get traded after the Buffalo Bills re-signed Ty Johnson.
Cook has been pretty transparent this offseason with his desire to be one of the highest paid running backs in the NFL, essentially confirming on his Instagram recently that he deserves at least $15 million per year. That’s led to many fans turning on him of sorts, and often suggesting the Bills should trade him since they’re almost certainly not going to p

Cook has been pretty transparent this offseason with his desire to be one of the highest paid running backs in the NFL, essentially confirming on his Instagram recently that he deserves at least $15 million per year. That’s led to many fans turning on him of sorts, and often suggesting the Bills should trade him since they’re almost certainly not going to pay him the kind of money he’s looking for. Patrick absolutely disagrees with pretty much any trade theory short of a team being stupid enough to overpay to the extent Brandon Beane can’t refuse. While agreeing that Cook’s snap percentage and a shortcoming or two of his leads to him not being deserving of the same type of money guys like Saquon Barkley and Derrick Henry can command, he explains multiple reasons why he considers trading Cook completely foolish, even if this is his last year on the team.
Also Patrick has thoughts on a listener calling the Bills signing of Joey Bosa the Baltimore equivalent of adding DeAndre Hopkins and worries that the Bosa move has Shawn Merriman vibes from more than a decade ago.
That plus Keon Coleman being counted on to step up, Damar Hamlin returning to the Bills, Shaun Dolac showing on during his UB Pro Day and plenty more.

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Joe From Queens to discuss and react to all of the Buffalo Bills additions so far in free agency as well as the suspensions to Michael Hoecht and Larry Ogunjobi.
It’s been hard to put a finger on exactly how free agency has been for the Bills to this point. Weird is the term Patrick comes up with. Brandon Beane clearly had a few things in mind with his approach, most notably a receiver with a specific skill set and essentially an overhaul on the defensive line. It was shocking news to learn on Friday both Hoecht and Ogunjobi would be suspended six games each for PED violations, especially shocking to hear Beane admit he didn’t know about Ogunjobi but did ahead of time with Hoecht. The guys have plenty of reactions to that news and the way a lot of fans are handling it.
Also, the Bills may be relying on rookies more than they like in 2025 early on after the suspensions. The guys discuss how impactful rookies have been with the team throughout the Sean McDermott era.
Plus, Joe introduces a true or false segment, Patrick has a Mt. Flushmore of Patrick’s in honor of St. Patrick’s Day, thoughts on players who change uniform numbers and much more.
