  • Jennifer Dyer and Daniel Altenau
Recently, Mike had the honor of co-presenting a talk at Catholic Charities USA’s annual Applied Institute for Disaster Excellence (AIDE) on the topic of crises communications. It was such a great experience that he and Jen brought on two great people from the institute, Jennifer Dyer, Director, Capacity Building for Disaster Operations at Catholic Charities USA and Daniel Altenau, Director of Communications & Disaster Services, Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Raleigh. Dan was the far more polished co-presenter for the talk on crises communications. On this episode, we chat about how they became involved in disaster response services, how Catholic Charities supports disaster relief work both nationally and locally, and why disaster responders should consider attending AIDE.

  • Rowan Catholic Book Club
In this episode of Talking Catholic, Kari and Mike had the wonderful college students from Kari's ministry at Rowan Catholic Newman Center take some time out of cramming for finals to share about their book club ministry.

Many thanks to the Rowan University students who joined us this week: Peter Gawason, Morgan McRae, Marian Yanka, Nikolas Soyka, Timothy Sullivan, and Bri Broadwater.

  • Discover Catholic Schools Week 2022
This week is Discover Catholic Schools Week, a national initiative started by the National Catholic Education Association (NCEA), to help promote Catholic schools and Catholic education across the country. With this exciting week in mind, host Marianela Nunez and guest host Michael Bress, welcomed four members of the South Jersey Catholic School community to the show: Mary Whipkey, president at Camden Catholic High School; Heather Crisci, principal at Camden Catholic High School; Sr. Michele DeGregorio, principal at St. Margaret Regional School; and Laureen Brady, advancement director at St. Margaret Regional School. Throughout the episode, the group discusses what Discover Catholic Schools Week is all about, what makes each of their schools (and Catholic schools in general) so special, the impact teachers have on their students and the school as a whole, and the true impact donorship can have on the legacy of a school. The conversation wrapped up with a congratulatory message to Mary Whipkey after her recent announcement that she will be retiring at the end of the year.
