  • A new year for Catholic Schools
This week marks the beginning of the 2022-23 school year for our South Jersey Catholic Schools. As a preview, we brought together the staff of the Office of Catholic Schools to discuss the new school year. Host Marianela Nunez, and fill-in co-host Mike Bress, chat with their colleagues, including Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Bill Watson; Assistant Superintendent of School, Sr. Rose DiFluri; and Director of Curriculum, Dr. Bobby Lockwood, about what to expect from our schools this year in many areas including academics and faith - as well as what each of them is most looking forward to this year. It is a fun conversation between co-workers as they embark on another exciting school year.

  • THE Katie Comerford-Rivera episode
Last week’s episode was great, but it contained one terrible tragedy, our beloved Katie Comerford-Rivera only had about 5 minutes of airtime during our roundtable episode. Our host Mike Walsh decided that oversight needed to be rectified, so we brought her back this week to talk about her life as a fundraiser, how people can get more accustomed to fundraising, how to be strategic about it, and maybe we discussed a few Marvel Cinematic Universe topics at the end of the episode, too.

  • Talking Saints - Monica
    "Nothing is far from God."
With these words, Saint Monica displayed a fervent faith and courageous heart as she prayed diligently for the conversion of her family.  In this month’s Talking Saints, Laurie and Pete discuss the extraordinary life of this 4th century North African, whose tireless devotion and witness to the Lord inspired her son, Augustine, to follow her path to sainthood.    Monica’s story can teach us all to persist in prayer for our loved ones away from the Catholic faith, understanding that any action for the Lord, could one day bear much fruit.
Saint Monica, patron of married women and the conversion of relatives, pray for us!

  • Fr. Josh Nevitt Returns
We welcome back Fr. Josh Nevitt to the show today. He has new gigs that will make him quite well seen around South Jersey, so we thought it might be wise to reintroduce him to the world. Earlier this summer he was named priest secretary to the bishop and assistant director of vocations for the Camden Diocese. Both jobs will keep him on the road and in parishes with great frequency, so we figured you’d might like to know who that young priest is emceeing all of the bishop’s Masses. Jen Mauro and Mike Walsh talk to Fr. Nevitt about his past assignments, how they differ from the new jobs, and how he plans to serve the Catholic faithful in these new roles.

  • Giovanni Sanzone of Carini Ristorante
It’s summer time and our intrepid hosts Kari Janisse and Mike Walsh were determined to record another podcast highlighting a Catholic restauranteur. So they headed down to Wildwood Crest with friend-of-the-show Father Cadmus (Mazz) Mazzarella, pastor of Notre Dame de la Mer Parish, to visit with a parishioner and owner of Carini Ristorante and Pizzeria, Giovanni (John) Sanzone. In addition to a great chat about the shore town and the restaurant family John grew up in, they also do a tasting of some of Carini’s best dishes. Mike has determined the pizza is the best he’s ever had in the United States.
To visit Carini’s Ristorante and Pizzeria, find them at 9854 Pacific Avenue, Wildwood Crest, NJ and check out their menu at https://cariniwc.com/.

  • Working for the Church #2
This week, Talking Catholic podcast hosts Mike Walsh and Jen Mauro are blessed to welcome three women with decades of experience working for the Catholic Church.
Dolores Orihel, secretary to the Bishop of Camden and the Diocese’s vocations director; Anna Summers, secretary to the vicar general and chancellor, and Susan Patullo, secretary to the vicar for clergy, share the changes they’ve seen over the years working for the Church since the late 1960s; their roles as de facto evangelizers, and how they have been inspired by the clergy, religious men and women, and lay people they encounter.
