Mark Douglas is a leading glass artist. He has been in practice for over two decades and now creates extraordinary lights and glass installations for some of Australia's leading architects and interior designers. In this week's talking design, Stephen Crafti speak with furniture designer John Parker. John started he professional life as a stock broker, but was always interested in design. Eventually he founded Space Furniture, and has since been designing furniture for many years. He now runs Format Furniture in Carlton and is speaking with Stephen about his life in design.

Designer Michael Jan is a fascinating figure in the design world. Trained in Architecture, studying at RMIT, Jan was sidelined early in his career when he discovered the Habitat homewares store in London by Terrence Conran. Returning to Melbourne, he established homewares store House. Jan returned to Architecture establishing JAM Architects with Architect Chris Manton -More recenly, Jan has established his own practice, designing bespoke housing.

Architect Andrew Maynard has received numerous awards for his homes, many of which break the traditional mould. His distinctive designs are regularly featured in the media, which have a strong emphasis on sustainability. Recycled materials usually appear in his work and colour is often used for great effect -limes, reds. He also adhere to sustainable issues in his own life, preferring to ride a bike rather than drive a car. Maynard recently received an architectural award at the Architectural Festival in late 2011.

Joost was raised on a farm in Monbulk Victoria. Originally from Holland, Joost started using recycled materials such as steel to create planter stands for flower and plant displays in cafes, bars and restaurants. While he continues to create extraordinary installations, he has literally taken on the world with his greenhouses. These greenhouses showcase what can be done by using recycled building materials. Customers are served organic produce and sit on chairs made from recycled materials. These pop-up cafes in Melbourne, Sydney and Perth have made people think about a more sustainable future. Joost is currently liasing with London authorities in bring the greenhouse to a larger audience.

Monty Coles is a leading fashion photographer who was regularly travelling the globe in the 1980s with magazines such as British Australian Vogue. Initially working on Wall Street, in the finance industry, Coles made the transition to photography after being asked to assist a New York photographer with his business. Stephen Crafti speaks with Industrial Designer Simon Lloyd. Simon regularly collaborates with architects as well as producing his own range of products focusing on smaller items such as vases, bowls and kitchen appliances. While he is known for his ceramics, he is as comfortable working with materials such as felt. Simon has recently had an exhibition at the Anita Traverso gallery in Richmond, Melbourne.

In this week's episode of Talking Design, Stephen Crafti speaks with Robyn Healy, Associate Professor and Program Director for RMIT School of Fashion. Robyn has a Fine Arts Degree from ANU and started her career as the Inaugural Curator of Fashion and Theatre arts at the National Gallery of Australia in Canberra. Robyn shares her experience of working with Australian public collections of fashion and textiles for over 20 years.
