Talking Dogs on Thursday

This week we have two special guests joining us! Our first is leading greyhound trainer, Liam Dowling from Ballymac Kennels. Liam tells us about his four dogs as they prepare for the final of the Eric Browne Memorial Kingdom Derby at Tralee on Friday night.

Our second guest this week is the treasurer of Clonmel Greyhound Stadium, Tommy Caffery. Tommy tells us about all of the upcoming racing this weekend and all the great work going on at Clonmel. He also speaks about an upcoming benefit night which is very important for the track and will feature prizes such as 3 different hotel stays, a €200 voucher for the Horse & Jockey, and 3 stable tours.

This week we're heading down south to the Kingdom to chat to the one and only Berkie Browne, a widely known bookmaker from Listowel.

Berkie is very kindly sponsoring the Eric Browne memorial in Tralee in memory of his father who was another well known bookmaker. Berkie chats about which dogs have caught his eye the past year and discusses their recent performances.

A true expert on the form book, he gives his opinions on the semi finals tomorrow night.

This week we’re heading across the water, as Barry chats to Billy McMahon, a well-known Greyhound racing supporter from Essex.

They discuss his early love for greyhounds which began as a child when his friend’s father brought them along to watch the races. Over the years, Billy developed a love and appreciation for Greyhounds and has his own that he races and adores.

Last weekend, Billy enjoyed a great Irish win with Billericay Joe in Kilcohan Park.

Barry speaks to Michael Heeney, a man who has been involved in dogs for a long time joins us from Waterford.

He talks about his memories over the years and recent racing highs with his loveable Sentimental Lad, co-owned with his daughter Eimear. Sentimental Lad has just recently retired from the track but has given the duo some wonderful nights, included a track record performance in Shelbourne Park.

Michael ends with some very profound words as he looks forward to the future in our great sport:

Barry chats to Rachel Wheeler, a talented owner & trainer ahead of the biggest night of Limericks racing calendar, the Matchbook Irish St. Leger Final.

In this episode, Barry chats to Noel Holland, a man who has been involved with greyhounds throughout his entire life.

Noel began working in the greyhound industry when he was a young man in Youghal and over the years he held multiple positions such as Judge, Racing Manager, General Manager and Director. Over the years, he has seen some of the greatest greyhounds of all time, and recalls memories of one legend who needs no introduction, Spanish Battleship.

Noel recalls the magic of the old Western Road and the move to Curraheen Park, which Noel praises as fantastic circuit.

This week Barry Drake speaks with Good Cody’s trainer Patrick Guilfoyle after their great win in the Friends and Supporters of Cork Greyhound Racing Irish Laurels Final in Cork last Saturday night.

Pat gives us an insight into Good Cody’s personality and life at home and what it means to win such a brilliant classic. He gives Barry an update from the Magical Kennels, including puppies whom he hopes will be hitting the track by spring.

Curraheen Park hosts the Final of the 2022 Friends and Supporters of Cork Greyhound Racing Irish Laurels this Saturday and Jimmy is looking forward to seeing "the best dogs in the country" in action.

He gives his thoughts on the competition and of course looks forward to the Final of the Bart Leahy Memorial, which will pay tribute to our dear friend Bart.
