Today’s podcast guest is David Neal, Director at The Eighth Mile Consulting.  David began discussing a link between self-awareness and selflessness he then made the following statement, ‘Leadership is not about you’… let that sink in for a moment and added, ‘a lot of people don’t know what good [leadership] looks like’, again let that sink in.

So here we are and I welcome you back to the Australian entrepreneurs podcast.  My podcast guest was David Masefield, the Founder and President of Canvas Coworking Inc based in Toowoomba.  Why listen?  David provides a template for how he developed Canvas by driving its development from a community foundation.  I asked David about key entrepreneurial skills and the list was an interesting one including the ability to accept failure, tenacity, the ability to walk away and try something again and learn how to pivot.

Welcome back to the podcast.  If you can set aside some time this podcast is well worth the time if you are contemplating a career as an entrepreneur.  I asked both Sarah and Matthew what drove them to entrepreneurship with both mentioning family as the basis of their pathways.

Sarah and Matthew provide a mini-master class in why entrepreneurship is a viable option for Australians considering an alternative to working for someone else’s business.  Sarah reminded me in simple way what business is about – ‘business is a people game’.

Today’s podcast guest has an extremely interesting background working across the political, corporate and start-up spaces.  Mark Gustowski was formerly the Chief Executive Officer of QUT Creative Enterprise Australia. I asked Mark about measure of success he found to be critical and he was very focused on the fit of employees to the business environment in which they work. He noted that leader success for him is developing functional and cohesive teams.

Ben Deverson is the Founder and Director of Lawganised.  His business focus is the business management field across legal firms.  As usual I began the interview by asking Ben what put him on the leadership path and like many former guests he has a military background.  A particularly telling part of our discussion was that he mentioned being a servant leader.

A brilliant and follower focused question posed by Ben was - ‘What can I do today to make your life easier’. As always thank you for following the podcast and more great content on the way.

I am proud to present another Australian Entrepreneurs podcast. Today’s guest is Scott Douglas, the Start up Founder and Principal Designer at Green Lab Futures and a lecturer at Federation University Australia. Scott was introspective and candid about his pathway to entrepreneurship.  Scott discussed his entrepreneurial pathway as being shaped by a sense of service to others and a deep respect for community.

He outlined the stumbling blocks facing entrepreneurs and argued that there is a shift in the traditional view of leadership to forms of leadership that are shared within organisations. Well worth a listen and again I thank Scott and all of the leaders and entrepreneurs that have given their time to speak with me about leadership.

The fifth podcast in the Global Edition series of the podcast.  Today’s podcast guest is David Shapiro CEO, MENTOR: The National Mentoring Partnership.  David provided amazing insights from his travels as a leader and in particular I asked him what he considered to be the key leader capabilities.  His response – communication, authenticity and discipline or as you’ll hear in the podcast listening, being open and transparent and being focused.

David also provides an interesting perspective around the function of a leader and that is, in his view, to be of service to others.  I hope you tune in and enjoy the leadership pathway David shares and as always stay safe and more great content around this thing called leadership.

As always hope you enjoy the wisdom imparted by my podcast guest. Today’s guest is Yasmin Grigaliunas the Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of the World's Biggest Garage Sale.  I was inspired by her story and how she came to be in the leadership / entrepreneur space.

A few elements stood out for me during the discussion.  The first being that leaders have a responsibility to do more for their communities.  I took this to mean that leaders have influence and by the nature of their roles they can get things done and in her case, Yasmin outlines the passion for her business which she states is about people, planet and purpose or put another way - building people, impacting communities and encouraging conscious consumption.  As always I hope you enjoy the podcasts today and I hope you are all keeping safe and well through COVID-19.

Welcome back to the Talking Leadership podcast.  Today’s episode is focused on a discussion around self-leadership and emotional intelligence expertly defined by Dr Michelle Bakjac.  Empathy has been a common theme amongst the podcasts and Michelle defined empathy as understanding (1) what makes you tick? (2) your values and (3) your beliefs.  Being empathic and an awareness of your values and beliefs will lead to better self-leadership and better organisational leadership.

Today’s podcast guest is Leanne Hodyl, the Managing Director at Hodyl & Co.  During the podcast she identified as a leader and introvert.  At the time of recording this did not immediately resonate with me.  Once it did sink it I started to think about how leaders engage with the world of work as either an introvert or extrovert.  Leaders will fall somewhere on the spectrum and as Leanne noted it may impact how you conduct yourself as a leader.
