Stuart Morgan is a Performance Golf Coach to some of the best golfers on the planet but more impressive is his desire to learn, grow his knowledge and share that with the golfing community.

He is incredibly humble and is someone I hope to continue to connect with.

I have followed Hugh's work for a while and was particularly interested in his insight into Motivational Interviewing

As we all know influencing behaviour change is not easy and while we are told the questioning approach is a great way to do this, I think to do it skill fully is challenging and that is where I believe Motivational Interviewing has some gold.

Rob Waddell has one of the most impressive and diverse sporting resumes in the country, he has played rugby for Waikato, Won an Olympic gold in the single skulls in Sydney 2000, has a black belt in Judo, raced for Emirates Team NZ in the Americas cup and for the past two cycles has been the chef de mission for the NZ Olympic team. 

I didn’t know rob I just happened to be fortunate enough to sit next to him at a recent Chiefs game and asked him to come on the podcast, he was very humble in accepting suggested I must be scrapping the bottom of the barrel to want him, as you will hear in the next 40 minutes Rob has so much to offer and I cant wait to get him back on

Today I am joined by another one of NZs best coaches Shane Mcleod 

Shane coached the New Zealand Mens Hockey Team, the black sticks at the  2008 & 2012 Olympics and after a disappointing  games in 2012 he took some time to reflect, slowed down to speed up and came back a better coach 

That evolution led to coaching the Belgium mens hockey team to Olympic gold in Tokyo to go with the World title in 2018 and European championship in 2019.

We are lucky to have him back in NZ for a little while and after listening to this you will understand why, Shane brings so much which can help any team whether that be in business or sport

Through his career as a professional ‘Big Wave’ surfer and Red Bull Athlete, he has become obsessed with the relationship between personal growth, high performance and fulfilment

He has a documentary about him called the other side of fear which is a great watch, ….. man I got nervous sitting on my couch watching the big waves on the documentary let alone paddling out in them.

I must admit I found it fascinating when Mark described golf as the sport that messes with your head… I still cant comprehend how you can compare a short putt to a 50 foot wave.

This week I have something a little different, I am joined by Bill Bestic and this session will be broken in to part 1 and part 2 as he was kind enough to spend a fair amount of time with me

I have always had a fascination with the SAS and that is how I stumbled across Bill was searching for podcasts with SAS soldiers. I was immediately captivated by Bills humility and his ability to reflect on what he had learnt, take a look at himself first and then evolve his skills

What I also found fascinating was once Bill finished in the SAS he trained to become a doctor and then an anaesthetist which he now does at Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney , oh and also he become a commercial helicopter pilot over the last couple of years too!

I was intrigued to dig into the different leadership styles and environments between general population and the military and if there is stuff we could learn from either environment. 

Bill is a fantastic learner and thinker, there is so much to learn from this episode I trust you will enjoy it and part 2 will come out next week.

This week I am joined by world cup winning netball coach Dame Noeline Taurua 

In the 2018 Commonwealth games NZ lost to Jamaica in the bronze medal match, their worst ever result in a Commonwealth games

After the games Noeline Taurua was appointed as head coach and fast forward 11 months and the Silver Ferms had beaten tournament favourites Australia 52-51 in the final to be crowned world champions

In this chat you can see why Noeline is so successful, her attention to detail is high and the standards she sets for herself and those around her are even higher, but she does this with all the love and support required to get the best out of people.
