Tonight I am joined by Alex McKenzie, Alex has been involved in high performance sport for over 25 years in numerous capacities. After graduating from the University of Otago with degrees in Physical Education and Anthropology, Alex went on to complete a master’s degree and PhD in Sport Psychology from the University of Victoria in British Columbia, Canada.

Upon returning to New Zealand he spent ten years as a lecturer in sport psychology at Otago University, during which time he worked with numerous high-performance athletes and teams as a mental skills consultant.

In 2008 Alex was asked to lead the development of the newly established Coach Accelerator Programme for High Performance Sport New Zealand and was the Manager of that programme until April 2018.

Ian is one of the leading figures in the constraints led approach to coaching and speaks to us about how he brings this to life as both a coach and on himself with his journey teaching himself how to play golf using these methods

Ian has some exciting projects coming up including a website (still under construction) called "the constraints collective" and they can already be found on Twitter and also a project called "Swing like Tiger",  I'm pretty excited about both of these things,

This week I am joined by Kylie Wilson, Kylie is "Head of Performance Psychology" at High Performance Sport New Zealand. 

Kylie completed her PhD in Wales while also playing over 50 tests for the Welsh Rugby Team and has worked in a variety of sports from Gymnastics to Rugby and has supported our NZ teams at a number of Olympic Games.

In this chat we talk about Kylie's journey, the difference between HP sport and other sport, the demands on young athletes and how we can best support them, I really enjoyed this chat and would love to get Kylie back on for round two as there is so much more I would love to know.

This week I am joined by Mike Rogers, a local rugby coach who has done it the hard way. Mike doesn't have a professional playing background, he has made his way up through the grades, initially coaching club rugby, before coaching representative age group teams and from there moving on to be part of the Bay of Plenty Steamers coaching group in 2019 and 2020.

Despite success with the Bay he was unable to maintain his role and this year turned his attention to being assistant coach with Waikato Women's Team who won the national championship for the first time in their history. 

Mike speaks openly and candidly about what he thinks we need to do in order to best support coaches and what he believes to be most important in coaching and coach development.

This week I am joined by Dr Andrew Wilson from Leeds Beckett University in the UK. Andrew is a Kiwi from Invercargill who gained a PhD from Indiana University in 2005 in Psychology. 

In this chat we chat about ecological psychology and dynamical systems in both academic terms and also in practical terms as Andrew talks about the skills of All Black Dan Carter and how he might perceive the world and develop his skills.

This week I am joined by Zane Winslade from Flowsport Mental Performance. Zane has been working in the mental skills space for a number of years and has worked with a wide range of athletes and teams across various sports. 

Recently he has created a journal designed for young athletes to assist them with their mental skills journal and to start developing habits that will help them later in life. This journal is an outstanding resource for young people whether they are athletes or not, it has such wonderful frameworks in it that we could all use.
