Author Mitch Horowitz discusses his new experiencer and data driven show Alien Encounters: Fact or Fiction, which premieres Weds, June 19, 10 p.m. ET/PT on Discovery and MAX.
More about the show:
Mitch Horowitz is a seasoned author (Occult America, The Miracle Club) and lecturer with a passion for unearthing the hidden truths of our universe. He’s spent years conducting in-depth research, interviewing witnesses, studying government documents, and delving into the historical records of all things unexplained. Now, along with Chrissy Newton, a science and tech journalist, podcaster, and partner of The Debrief, Horowitz investigates the veracity behind personal accounts of otherworldly experiences. They use scientific data and research to dissect real life encounters with extraterrestrial activity and determine whether or not they can be explained — all while posted at a local bar in Roswell, New Mexico.
The show premieres Wednesday, June 19 at 10PM ET/PT on Discovery Channel and Max

Actor, comedian, and podcaster Rhys Darby returns to the show to talk about new episodes of The Cryptid Factor show, and all things monstrous and extraterrestrial — as well as the significance of his show Our Flag Means Death, which ended far too soon.
You know Rhys Darby from Flight of the Conchords, the Jumanji reboots. the What We Do in the Shadows film, The X-Files revival, Hunt for the Wilderpeople, and most recently as the gentleman pirate Stede Bonnet in Our Flag Means Death alongside his buddy Taika Waititi. But Rhys Darby is also a fan of high strangeness, and is one-third of the long-running podcast The Cryptid Factor with Dan Schreiber, and Leon 'Buttons' Kirkbeck. Since 2008 they have passionately (and often awkwardly) been discussing 'cryptids' and monsters like Yeti, Chupacabra, Bigfoot and Nessie - as well as weird news of the world, UFO's, time travelers, robots and space stuff. Though they take these pseudosciences as seriously as they can, they struggle to take themselves seriously at all.

Karen Gillan joins the show to talk about her new comedy film Late Bloomers, in theaters June 7 — as well as spooky Scottish stories, and the 10th anniversary of her film Oculus, directed by Mike Flanagan.
Gillan went from Doctor Who fame to franchise movie star with roles in Guardians of the Galaxy, Jumanji, and Gunpowder Milkshake — as well as indie dramas All Creatures Here Below, and The Party’s Just Beginning (which she wrote and directed).
Now, with Late Bloomers, Gillan plays Louise, a 28-year-old Brooklynite adrift in life, who finds herself suddenly single and grappling with her identity as a musician. While she struggles with her underlying depression, a reckless drunken stumble lands her with a broken hip and leads to a stint in a physical therapy ward with patients twice her age. Here, she crosses paths with Antonina (played by Margaret Sophie Stein), a cantankerous elderly Polish woman who speaks no English. Reluctantly, Louise takes on the role of Antonina's caregiver, a situation neither of them welcomes. As they navigate their begrudging relationship, they confront the realities of aging, forcing Louise to consider her own journey into adulthood.

Producer Norm Coyne, founding partner of the Northern FanCon pop culture event, joins the show to discuss his comedic alien invasion-meets-comic con short film ‘Conquest’ — now being adapted into a feature film.
Conquest is the result of a mentorship program with Northern FanCon. For the past few years now, FanCon has received support from the film industry catalyst Creative BC for workshops and panels. These guests are of quality pedigree - Writer's Guild award winners, Emmy award winners, Golden Globe award winners. During the course of the 3 days of FanCon, they deliver masterclasses in their respective fields behind the camera. This initiative was designed to foster interest in film industry development and establish Prince George as a shooting location for productions. Relationships made in the Creative Corner have led to 4 feature films shot in Prince George in the last two years. In 2 of these films, Prince George portrayed itself garnering a great deal of benefit for local tourism efforts. This past May, the Creative Corner levelled up by actually shooting our short film Conquest at Northern FanCon with the film industry experts of the Creative Corner partnered with local less experienced counterparts in a unique mentorship activation.

'Sasquatch Sunset' stars Jesse Eisenberg, Christophe Zajac-Denek, and Nathan Zellner — who co-directed with brother and writer David Zellner — join the show to discuss this weird, absurd, surprisingly moving and beautiful film about a family of Sasquatches trying to survive the year in a changing world. And since they filmed the production in Bigfoot country of Willow Creek, California, they also discuss their own potential Squatchy sightings, or being mistaken for a real Bigfoot while in costume.
More about Sasquatch Sunset:
In the misty forests of North America, a family of Sasquatches—possibly the last of their enigmatic kind— embark on an absurdist, epic, hilarious, and ultimately poignant journey over the course of one year. These shaggy and noble giants fight for survival as they find themselves on a collision course with the ever-changing world around them. Starring Riley Keough, Jesse Eisenberg, Christophe Zajac-Denek and written by David Zellner, and directed by David and his brother Nathan — who also appears as the Alpha Squatch in the movie.
